Quoyi parrotfish reef safe?

I have a Quoys in a 465 gallon SPS tank, and he does the same thing with the front glass....looks like he is attacking. Mine is really mellow, about 5 inches long. Gets chased all around the tank by my 3 inch Powder Blue Tang. Great reef citizen so far. He's a fatty too.

Do they do that to the glass or acriylic to try to scrape algae off or?? Thankfully my tank is glass so I'm not worried about a sharp beak scratching the tank

I don't think so... I've seen him eat algae off glass... this looks like he's trying to charge his reflection. Mine does it at me whenever I wear a red shirt

Hmm...in that case I may just start the hunt for one to add to my 210. Thanks for the info!

Another thing, how common are they? Up until this thread, I never really heard about them.

They aren't very common and are frequently sold or shipped as some entirely different parrot fish then what they really are. I just saw one on DD a week or two ago and it was the first one I had seen on LA this year

here is a quick pic i snapped of mine he is 5.75 & eating everything

he's doing great eats like a pig & swims the whole tank .i wished that i had gotten one sooner this fish is awesome his colors are unreal

Ok, so i'm a little confused. Alot of people have these guys in a 5-8 inch range, but Fishbase says they get to be 16 inches...... Whats the deal?

FishBase lists that as max size ever recorded. Take a look through the photos on FB though... you'll notice none of them are close to that.

You say parrotfish and everyone assumes a huge, destructive fish. Full grown in a aquarium and full grown in the wild are two very different things. Some fish get huge no matter what. Post more pics and some videos of your Quoyis!!

I know I never dreamed about owning a parrotfish until I saw my quoyi at the LFS. First thing I thought of when I heard the term parrotfish:
