Quoyi parrotfish reef safe?

Thanks for the reply, and now you see why I'm asking. I have located one online, and emailed the store to verify the species, but in all honesty, I don't know if I can 100% trust their answer since I've heard others say they've ordered one and got the other.

Just wanted to be prepared if they do, in-fact ship a princess instead of a quoyi...
 
Well it looks like I'm joining the Quoyi Parrot Club. I was lucky enough to snag this guy out of Diver's Den today



The price stung a little but I have a feeling he will be well worth it. A couple quick questions...

This being my first parrotfish, do they have any special quarantine requirements? Being from DD, is it *really* necessary that I quarantine? I'm usually very VERY strict in my QT procedures, but my biggest empty QT is 55 gallons. I don't want this guy to be squished before he's unleashed on my 520g. If it's really necessary I can borrow something bigger from a reefer nearby. Thanks in advance!

I've seen pretty big princess parrots diving - I think they get bigger
 
FB lists quoyi at 40cm MAX, and the princess at 35cm MAX. So I'm not sure I'd say there's much of a difference.
 
How did you find out about this fish? I never saw it listed, and I don't even see it listed with the other sold items on DD...

Am I missing something?

Honestly I think the first was under priced. I got mine locally, from one of the least expensive stores around, it it was $150. Granted it's a beast, but I would think this type of fish goes for more, the smaller it is. But maybe not...
 
Mine was significantly less than that 6.5" fish recently sold but was only 4". Maybe DD is catching on to their popularity/demand and cashing in? If i didnt have mine i would be willing to pay 2-300 for a 2-3" fish just due to their slow growth rate, beauty and cool factor (their is a parrot living happily in my reef and not destroying it!)


Congrats on the fish! I bet it's going to look awesome in the 500 gallon. I think you'll be a little shocked at the size of the fish. They are huge round fish for their size. Just for the record....I didnt QT my parrot from DD. It went straight in the pool and it ate the first day. Once it settled in it REALLY started eating.
