Radion or ATI?

That was a very interesting read. I use radion gen 3 on my tank at the moment and have been having good results, but, part of me always wanted to try t5. I like my program but maybe this program may work better?
One thing I will note though. This was done in a frag system where shadowing from larger colonies is not an issue. My corals right now look fantastic from the top ( which is how you view in these frag tanks) but looking through the front pane the color is somewhat less. Maybe this is where the t5s would really outperform the leds.

Do a search for the Ecotech / coral labs study. It's a pdf and has a link to some programs they developed that provide amazing results. I would try this before switching from radions

I currently do not have radions. I have 4 Ai vega color. I read the link you provided and my light profile on the AI is very similar to the radion. All blues at 100%, white at 50% and red/green 30% run 9 hours a day.

When I look at my corals from the top during a water change, colors are great. Look at them from the side and they don't look so good. Also there is a lot of shadowing.

One thing I was take from the report is that they use only ATI Blue+ and Blue Special on their T5 fixtures. I will try using 6 blue+ and 2 blue special in my new fixtures.

In my opinion, and I speak as an owner of an ATI Hybrid, this is the way to go. You can take the best of T5 for a few hours per day (mine is open 4:30h/d) and the rest of the day with the flexibility and economy of the LEDs. In my case I needed to have the same coverage 3 Radions and my tank is 51x31x24(h) with sps. Before I decide I was proposed to take two Radions, but when I saw it in friends, was not enough for my tank.

Thanks for chiming in. I already placed an order yesterday for two 48" fixtures and they will be delivered tomorrow. Already got a guy coming by to install support above the tank so I can hang the fixtures.

6 tubes here

3x blue plus
2x Aquablue Special
1 x Purple Plus

You will love T5 :-)

What ATI Hybrid lamp would you suggest for a tank with these measurements:

Length: 112cm (44 inches)
Width: 75cm (29 inches)
Height: 60cm (23 inches)

I have a very centered aquascape. Will 4x39w + 2x75w led be enough or do I need 8x39w?

I would go with 8x39w , 8x39 has 41 cm ( width )

Fwiw, I just canned my 3 Radion Pros over my 48"x24" tank after considering adding a 4th to deal will shadowing and directional light issues, resulting in awkward coral growth and all the dark, bare back sides of my corals clinging to life. An ATi SunPower Dimmable 8x54w has brought the tank back to life. I tried to add a t5 supplement to the 3 Radions, but after a few weeks I realized I should've just stuck to T5 all the way. I may slap on a ReefBrite XHO Actinic LED strip for a little pop, but that's the least of my concerns now.

I got to ask where did you get your retro kit for the t5?

I would hardly say this was anything more than a sales tactic....

Sure, LED is probably the absolute best light source for aquaculture where all the corals are relatively small and all placed at the same level. You don't have to worry about shadowing, as soon as you get a developed base, it is GONE.

With the amount of lights they use, Electricity probably does come into play.

I am running T5 on my personal grow "up" tanks, but if I was building a commercial facility I would look into LED as much as possible.
