Radion Pro worth it? Overkill?

CHSUB, at least you said IMO! The problems with LEDs is not growth and colors are far more fluorescent and colorful. Rather the the problem is taking pictures of your tank. That I was shown how to tonight.

As a former user of radiums and ATI T5 I can say my pros are better for growth and color. If you have have not tried a premium LED fixtures and I assume not, please look at some results reefers have out there.

what is a premium LED fixture? one that cost alot?........i used two Pacific Sun led lamps on my 281 g for 8 months; and an Acan 800 on a 90 for 4 months.

both are "best of the best"!!! or are you going to say a Radion Pro is better than both?

Better than the sun and far better than the acan.

explane why/how the radion is better than the Pacific Sun? the sun uses more colors of the same leds(cree) and the high-end cree xml white. is it because you own the radion?

I do not know why but after looking at many tanks I never saw a sun that stood out. Not because I own one, I can afford to change my mind if and when I see a better system.

Most people do not know how to run LEDs. So they fail.

ok, now your confusing me....you said the radion is better than the Pacific Sun and the Acan, but now your saying it is user error. maybe you and Ron Reefman should PM and get your story straight.

when/where did you see a Pacific Sun lamp...imo there is no better looking LED light.

I wanted to see LEDs work but heard so much negative info from some. I have the luxury to travel for work across the country and saw many tanks. I saw three sun tanks and all were well set up. I was not impressed but they did run peaked too long so that may have had an effect. I did my research.

than your lucker than me, because after spending 4K on Pacific Sun and losing several thousand in sps' over 8 months, i had barely enought money to return to MH/T5. :sad2:

Well my corals are off the chart to me and all that see, enjoy the experience. Above all fixtures two stand out, the pro and the Mathis. I give the edge to the pro. Sorry about your loss.

good enough. however, i was not to impressed with the Radion and have not seen the Pro. imo, as far as leds go, Pacific Sun is top notch.

So how do you photograph sps in led tank and get realistic color rendering

You take a movie of your tank, for some reason it looks better. If using an iPhone take a move, then when reviewing and you are at the time you want a picture, touch the screen to stop it, then touch your home button and off button at the same time. It will save a picture to your picture files.

Try it.

I had not looked at this since earlier today. WOW! I love the attacks on those that like their lights. If you don't want Radion Pro lights, don't get them. I happen to like the fuller spectrum of lights. What I got above the gen2, was worth the extra money to me. If it is not to you, cool. To me it is not overkill period. Yes I am American, but no I am not stupid. Nice inflammatory comment Steve, but then again that was the whole point of the thread no?

LEDs are very intense. The led systems I have seen that truly stand out follow the sun. Bright for just a few hours.

Ron and I will NEVER pm each other.

fyi, Pacific Sun uses 6 x CREE XML Cool White and Neutral White
- 5 x UVA 420nm and 400nm
- 1 x CREE XPE Red
- 1 x CREE XPE Orange
- 6 x CREE XTE 450nm Royal Blue
- 6 x CREE XTE 465nm Royal Blue
- 4 x CREE XPE Green
- 2 x CREE XPE Blue
per panel, much more power than the radion pro.

10 led colors, 8 channels and still were not able to color up sps' like i wanted when comparing to MH/t5.

Maybe you did not follow the sun.

if it were that easy i would still have leds. imo, it is more about the physical limitions of led lighting. to get "full spectum" lighting the individual leds are placed on a panel and shine on the coral. each poylp on a sps coral is a single animal and i believe some polyps receive a very narrow range of light. this would have an adverse effect on the coral as a whole. imo this is why leathers and single poylp corals do very well under leds.
