Radion(s) and Anemone(s)

Ok I have three anemones in my tank.

I recently upgraded to three Radion Pro's. I really love them and the flexibility in spectrum.

For those that followed my build thread for my upgrade from 120 to 180, you will notice my Ritteri in the top and spread out over 18+ inches.

I have an RBTA and a andodres (I can never spell it sorry).

I also have quite a few lps/sps/zoa in the tank. Yeah.. I guess you can say I am making it a mixed.

SO.....

In making sure that the corals are appropriately lit I have been adjusting them (acclimation) in both the height of the corals and the intensity. Day 1 and 2 under the radion the ritteri was in it's 'comfortable' mode and stretched out. (Yeah looking at these guys daily you can tell when they are looking for something or not happy)

I want to make sure I am providing enough benificial light for the anemones, too. No one is moving or stretching up toward the light. Coloring is nice and they are eating/pooping correctly too.

Does anyone else have radions? Can you explain any acclimation or color changes?

WOW... OK...

Hummm

This is under my radion.. The flow had just switched and I wanted to see how the underside was anyway.

i keep my red carpet and sunburst btas under radions.
just start slow. i just do start 30% and over 1 month slowly moving it up to 80%. and my red and green never over 22% and all leds intensity never over 80%.
the red carpet looks great, turn from pink to red now. the sunburst however turning more yellow tip orange bubble and green base, was orange tip with red bubbles and green base. i was going to lower the white to 40% on the bta tank.

I have a radion g2 and a radion pro on my tank. The anemones in there appear to be pretty happy and no issues but I have had radions since they have come out so 90% of my corals are used to it. The anemones have held their color.

OK I need to modify my camera or my lights...

The vids look horrible under the radions...

I think it has too much blue and does not show up correctly.

Try again tomorrow.

Beautiful tank Eastamherstbias!

So you guys like your Radions? I'm on the fence and hesitant to pull the trigger. I'm not worried about the cost, just the issues I've read that some have with their corals. My corals are finally doing really well and I really don't want to cause any issues.

I really like the ability to ramp up and down the intensity to simulate sunrise and sunset. That's my main reason for wanting to upgrade.

Sorry if I hijacked your thread worm5406.

No you are good.... I was hoping to spawn the conversation more among some that frequent in here mostly.

I really love them. I thought they were bleaching some of my coral.. it turns out to be STN (slow tissue necrosis) instead.

I have mine currently set to 45% max.

I'm running a ReefBreeders Photon32 over my 90 gal mixed reef and have been ramping it up to 100% during the peak lighting hours. Growth remains to be seen, but all inhabitants including my hopefully-now-recovered H.Mag seem very happy.

I've been reading a lot about the RB LEDs, but I think that's for another thread.

Sorry about your STN issues worm5406. I'm leaning more and more towards picking up a pair of the Pro models. I love my MP10s and I can't imagine that their LEDs would be any less impressive.

Yeah I have two mp40's... (I have another one just not in tank) and I got 3 pro's for my 180.

WOW.. is all I can say.... I had/have another company's panorama version (three of them too) but I could never get my apex to control it correctly for ramping up and down. SO it was light shock sometimes to what was in the tank.

I have a 185 gallon reef with multiple Bubble Tip Anemones. Over this tank is 3 Radion Pros. I sometimes think they are simply too powerful for the BTAs. What settings are ya'll running for your Radion Pros over BTAs and how long did you set the daytime for?

Pros are worth it if you have the cash. Otherwise get the gen 2's and you can upgrade in the future.

9.5-10 hour cycle is my rule. My anemones have held their color and the corals still look good.

Anemones with no lights on just my flash.

LEDS do work. I have had them since day one and they grow corals. I started with the 250w MH, graduated to the 120w Reefkoi Evolution moved to Par 38's and I have had the radions for the past few years. I really think it takes 6-9 months for your corals to adapt and color up.

I also light all my basement sump frag system with them. 108 frags currently in it.

You find that one Radion over each 40B is sufficient? How high are they hanging above the water? Hard to tell for sure from pictures. Oh and by the way... that's a heck of a nice set up you built. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Thanks for the kind words. I love the setup. This is the third version. It started as jus a basement sump and then added one 40br and now has four.

No, if it was a display tank, I would need two. But I have little rock structures in these tanks so I don't have shadowing. I hand made my frag fracks and the radions are "around" 9 inches off the water. I put the racks right under the radions. I have done it for years and have great growth and color. I make sure to put the light loving corals (hydnopora, montis) under the lights and the corals that like less light on the fringes (war coral, palys). Two radions are overkill for my frag tanks at this point.

This smaller frag rack is three tiers 11 inches long x 13 inches deep x 11 inches tall

The larger frag rack is 22 inches long x 13 inches deep x 13 inches tall
