So I'm out of town on a business trip. My roomate calls this morning to tell me one of my Radion's is smoking and smells of electrical fire. Had him unplug them all, until I get back tomorrow morning.

Anybody ever had this experience?? Any ideas what could have caused it? He said nothing looked wet, but I haven't seen it myself. They're mounted about 8"-9" above the water. Guess I'll find out more when I get back tomorrow. Glad he was there, or else I might not have a house now....

Yea, I would get him to check if the fan spins. If it does maybe plug it in and see if the fan comes on when the light comes on

It sounds like water might have gotten splashed directly into the fan, causing it to fail.

Please contact us directly using the information in my signature and we'd be happy to help troubleshoot further and get you back up and running.

Gave EcoTech a call. Always heard they had great customer service, and they do. Getting a new unit overnighted. He also said this is probably a known issue they've had with a (very) few units. They'll double check to make sure. Nothing that should cause my house to burn down or anything if another did it, however. So, I'm good to go :)

awww man i just got my unit and wont be able to hook them up for a few weeks i hope this is a really rare thing :( im sorry but glad to hear that they are over nighted you a new unit

I had a similar experience with the electrical burning smell. The fan had stopped working. Had to send the unit in, wasn't offered a replacement unit. Lost several coral between no light and using a temporary light until the radion was fixed.

How long did it take to get your light back. Most corals can go several days without light.

My problem occurred on a Monday, called Tuesday and was told I needed to get a RMA online. I couldn't get to a computer till that night. Mailed out Wednesday, they received it that Thursday and I received it a week from that Friday, so approximately 10 days.

+1000 on their great service/support. Mine had a bad fan (under warranty) sent it back and they replace for free and ship it back in timely manner.

These guys are pros. Alex and Rob got me taken care of. I can't even BEGIN to imagine how this would have panned out with another company.
