Radium mogul base are made for HQI ballasts?

So the SE Radiums are meant to be run on HQI ballasts right?

I am running 250w Hamilton 14k SE right now and it just has no blue on Electronic ballasts (ARO). My setup right now is no actinics, and I wish to keep it this way.

Does it shorten the life if radiums are run on e-ballasts? I do not want to see any yellow at all and these Hammys are borderline. There is a negligable difference in PAR between these bulbs run on AROs according to JB NYs site. What is the difference in between electronic and HQI besides the PAR outputs?

the HQI is going to burn the bulb at a slightly higher wattage. For example the 400w hqi ballast burns the bulb at 430w. this makes the radiums burn a little brighter, and makes their color whiter. Almost everyone I know runs radiums on HQI ballasts. Thats what I run on my 120g without actinics, and I think the color is great.

400 watt radiums are really 360 watt bulbs... thats where they get the rep for being 'short-lived' because people put them on 400s and they blow out after 6 months.

The 250s are one of the few HQI rated 250wattSE bulbs actually, rated to run at 270watts. So go ahead and try it, just right for a HQI ballast.
