Rae, are you in the process of moving rock around in your tank? If so, I'd like to offer a thought. I think I remember that you said that the PVC your rock was stacked on fell over--I'm guessing you must have drilled your rock to thread it on the PVC, so could you drill a large, stable rock to accept the base of the PVC and epoxy the pipe in the hole in the rock? Perhaps that would create more stability. Second thought is that I "noticed" the white PVC in the tank. I saw that we have some gray PVC in the basement. I'm not sure how common that is, but if you can obtain some it would blend in better with your rock. Perhaps also "cap" off the pipe with a small rock (drilled partway through) so the top of the pipe is also invisible. My experience with reef epoxy is that it is not all that strong--you could probably always twist and break the seal of the epoxy if you ever needed to disassemble things. Just my two cents... Also, remember that you will never get it "perfect", you'll just drive yourself crazy. Been there, done that!

Great thoughts. I esp, like the idea of drillng half of a rock to top it all off. I am going to have to d something. I am about to dive in. ;)

So a friend went coral shopping oday, and got a nice, very small, piece of daisy, clove, and some zoos, about the size of a walnut with all of the above on it. The tank is all came out of wasn't the best....would you all fresh water dip it?????

I have 3 #3's I just need to move them.

yes, make sure all three are pointing in the same direction to get a circular flow and as evenly spaced out between the sides of the hex as well as you can.
Have one a right angles, one pointing up for surface agitation and one pointing downwards towards the substrate but the main direction of flow is the same--either clockwise or counter clockwise

this way flow will spin right around the column and the three angles will address all low flow areas of the tank.

BTW--my 2 pairs of coral banded and cleaner shrimp have disappeared over the course of the summer I guess. I wonder whats been after them?

it could be very well three emerald crabs --that have been in the tank for over 2 years now. I never see them--just an occasional molt to tell me they are still around.

Thanks Scott for the info. We put it to good use. I just reworked the rock, and when the "dust" settles I ill shoot pictures. I read the other day on one of the threads that zoos sting, and have toxins. EVERY time I put my hands in the tank, my middle finger burns, swells, and is painful x2 days. Anything from anyone.

In the mean time here some pics for your thread:

I don't think I will be old and grey, seeing how I am only about 14 1/2 yrs old.

As far as your hand hurting, you do have bristleworms which don't feel great when you touch them. Maybe some gloves? Not for water protection but bristles and stings?
