Ok.. so I have the mother colony which is 6 x 6 and beautiful.. I also have a ton of other mini colonies showing up all over the tank.. I will be making frags and selling a few of them...

besides killing them and getting rid of them completely, is there anything i can do to keep them from spawning? or should i just get rid of them completely?

thanks guys

I feel so bad for you! Nawt just make it a dedicated pocilliopora tank? How bad can spawning corals be? I have nothing really helpful to say congrats on the spawning thou! Any pics? Did you witness the spawning? How long after did you notice the infestation?? Are they everywhere? Just curious..

I feel your pain. I have them all over my tank as well. Pretty much the weed of the SPS world....

ya, i have leds so pix are a pain,, but i think i have close to 100 small buds n colonies,, I just spent two hrs breaking them off and gluing buds over.. im probably going to get rid of all of it and sell them.. I do not witness the spawning.

do all of these types of corals spawn like this? I kinda hate to get rid of some of my colonies,,, going to see if joes juice toasts them out.. if that works then i can def keep a few colonies

Its not a spawn really … they spread by polyp bailout. Similar to Aiptasia and petal laceration.

They just let hairlike polyps float off in the current … and wherever it lands, a new pocci colony starts growing.

They are a pain. The first time you see one, you're kind of excited. But when you have 100 of them taking up good real-estate … it's suddenly not as cool haha

cool, thanks for that explanation.. i figured it was like that.. so when i snap them off and i see that green "dust" coming off it might be in trouble..

also, is there a certain size when they start to do this or size is irrelevant?

btw i have these growing in very low lit areas.. some are mini colonies on the bottom of my sand.. my tank is 30 inches deep and my lighting is about 15 inches above the water. they are set at 70% max and 50% w on ai leds

Yeah they don't care. My original colony was in the top third of the tank.

I now have them on my overflow just inches below the waters surface "¦ and in my sand bed 24 inches below the waters surface. Both display the same colour and polyp extension too "¦ so I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter for this weed haha.

In another thread someone was looking for easy SPS "¦ I always recommend this one "¦ you can't even kill it off when you're trying too lol

Not all the pocillopora spread like that I got several varieties and when I added that one I noticed new ones in other places fairly quickly, I thought it was neat at first too then realized it was going to be a menace luckily several other corals kill it fairly easily even seriatopora wins against it, but I put an lps frogspawn right up on them for couple days and no more of those.

I have the same thin happening, Pocillapora sting is not that strong compared to Acropora. Just snap the weed off and put a acro in its place.

How "rainbow" are they... just slight shade variations, or major color differences?

Same question here. Have a picture?

I would also like to know the color or if you could try to get a picture. :)

Not really rainbow at all, but this is the name its given/sold to me as.. it has blue shades and green shades, better in person.
(old pic the mother colony is huge!) def not like that joes rainbow acro!!! i need that!

BTW it does seem weaker than most sps, it did sting my sestosa slightly and also two other plating corals
