Raised Scales

Is it possible for raised scales (pineconing) to result from an injury? My one fish has what looks like a sore and the scales around it are pineconing.

I recently changed his filter (the old one had the motor burn out) and he liked to hide between the intake and the wall of the tank but I think now the space is too small but he is still trying to wedge himself in there. Could this be what is causing the problem? Or should I be concerned about a disease? If so, any ideas what?

He recently stopped eating, but I didn't think anything of it because he has done that before for a few days. But now I'm concerned because of the sore/scales. I'm wondering if his not eating is because of a disease or if its because he is trying to protect the injured (?) side. It seems like he may be trying to protect the injured side just based on his movements in the tank but I'm not sure.

Sounds precisely like an internal bacterial infection caused by Pseudomonas, Corynebacterium or the like.
At the described stage the fish is likely beyond recovery because the kidneys may be irreversibly damaged.
Prophylactic antibiotic treatment of all fish in the tank is strongly recommended.
Bassleer suggests Erythromycin, nifurpirinol or tetracycline.

For more info see Bassleer, page 37

I moved the fish out of the tank for now to see if he will heal up on his own (if it is a cut from the filter). If it is an infection, anything I should do for the original tank? He was the only fish in there but I have some new guys I would like to add but don't want to if they would be at risk
