my ph in the tank is only 7.2, I have sand in the bottom of my tank...no go there raising the ph. What if I put crush coral in a external canister filter?...knowing that I may become a bacterial filter...but would it raise my ph?...thxs all:confused:

I'll go one further

test your SG, alkalinity and open your windows.

Use kalkwasser for makeup.

If you use liquid two part make sure it's recipe #1 BAKED baking soda = sodium carbonate

I don't there is a such a thing as naturally raising alkalinity except possibly making sure you are not building up too much Co2, but with PH at 7.2, I you should check that your salinity is correct before doing anything else.

Then go with the suggestions on baking soda, etc from above.

I doubt it's 7.2 for salt water. How are you measuring it.?Aragonite sand, live rock and skeletal mass will begin to dissove at >7.7 . with a bump in pH . 7.2 would indicate almost no basicity or alkalinity.

Crushed coral in a canister filter won't help. It wlli likey gather decaying matter and crate acidic conditions. As noted need some info on salinity, alkalinity a,calcium levels to be of any help. Aeration and fresh room air should help too.
