Raising PH up?

My pH goes between 7.75-ish at night to 8.2-ish and it's that low at night due to the calcium reactor.

NB: I run 'fuge lights on reverse schedule.

I'd actually like to keep the low point above 7.8-7.9 and maybe have the high point at 8.3-8.4 area, and my options right now seem to be:

1) kalk in the top-off
2) run a tube from the skimmer intake airline through basement storm window
3) 2nd chamber on calcium reactor, I'd have to do some research on that

For alkalinity and pH stability -- #1.

To raise pH from where it currently sits -- #2

To reduce the swing on the low end a tad (and it will be a tad) -- #3.

kalk @ 2tsp per gallon in the ATO makes for a nice and healthy PH/calcium dose for me. Although, im also running vinegar @ 45ml per gallon to keep ph from spiking and carbon dosing for nitrates.

thats my happy medium at the moment at least...

You wouldnt believe the number of clients that I had to tell to throw their pH meter in the garbage/closet because they were chasing numbers. As others have said, dripping kalk can help to keep it slightly higher, but for the most part, it will fall in line the best it can with available o2, and if everything else is in ballance.

Good to have you back Rod!

Happy Birthday!!!

+396 for Kalk

Jeff's right, Rod's right, the only Ph I worry about is in my reactors. When I switched to T5s the Ph dropped, still has a swing usually 7.6-7.8 with the air on. I made some of Randy's 2 part and chased the Ph for a while but after some surgery a couple years ago, I noticed the tank looked fine even though the Ph was low. After a few weeks, years now, I've found that you can be chasing your tail and dumping a lot of unneeded supplements in the attempt to raise your Ph. Low mag level can mess with your Ph too.
Go slow Mike whatever you decide to do.
