Rare day in the wintertime

Yesterday was one of the amazing days of winter here in Florida.

Woke up at 5am.....hooked the boat up.....could not see down the street the fog was so thick. It was about 55 degrees.....

Off to the boat ramp, it got light and the fog lifted to a beautiful perfectly clear blue sky. Down the channel out between the islands and I find the sea flat calm like a mirror!

Very unusual for late December in Tampa. So I am running along at 30 knots......out to the aquaculture site, I throw the anchor over and am pleased to be able to see down the anchor rope about 15 feet.

I put Susie in the cabin, as otherwise she is over the side with me and swimming in the cold water.

I gear up and drop over.....brrrr...but not so bad, water is 66 degrees, usually this time of year it is 51.

But...I find the bottom with my face....wham..into the sand, there is a about a four foot layer of "0" viability.....great...

So I am down there groping around for rock, and the fish are running into my mask as they cannot see either. I sure am glad I piled up the rock in piles for winter days like this....loaded up 1200# of rock. Back to the boat, new tank of air...back to the darkness, where I got 500# of live sand.

Back on the boat, pulled all the rock and sand, was still flat calm like a mirror, and was able to get her up on a plane....doing 30 knots on the way home.

It has warmed up to 82 degrees, and sky is crystal clear blue...gorgeous day to be alive!

For us up here in the north, I'm jealous. LOL

But I have been contemplating the move south lately. Kind of getting tired of the ice here in WV.

It has been warm here on the northern Gulf coast also. How do the hitchhikers do coming from the unusually warm 66 degree water with the short transit into the normal upper 70's tank? It is the hitchhikers that make your rock nice after all.

These are tough critters.....they survive from 51 to 93 degree water temps, as that is what the swing is here from season to season!

Richard even in cold water I think you are living the life.

The grass is always greener on the other side ;)

how much do you charge for someone to go with and troll a line off the back for dolphin or our "florida sub par tuna" heh.

I was in st pete last couple weeks and the weather on the water was amazing for the most part. I dont know why the weather has been so good. I just hope its not because of other "bad things" effecting it for good.
