comes to prove that you can't catalog all the creatures of the sea, the last place that man hasn't maped out, and can't really do it any way which is a good thing.
softshell turtles can hide in a lake and never be seen. If the lake is in a remote area there could be a decent number of them there. the biggest problem all turtles face in asia is the chinese demand for food turtles some dinners sell for $10,000 right now there is probobly some buiseness man who has a reward for someone to get him that turtle for a special dinner to impress his friends. Someone went into s monistery and too all the giant softshells from the lake inside and it was the only location that this turtle lived fortunately there were some young ones that survived and the species is not gone for good. this is a huge problem for turtles world wide.
I adore turtles and torts of any kind. That's great news that it was found, but like another poster said-turtle dinners are highly coveted. I hope they bring that fella to a protected sanctuary.
