Rarest Zoanthid List

I have read that the "Sopranos" is extremely hard to keep alive.

That's a shame, I would have liked to add them to my tank someday. You don't see too much yellow in zoanthids....

Nice Purple Hornets Dave, if you ever are looking to get rid of a couple let me know! :D

Most that I've read that got the sopranos from that certain supplier , ALL perish.

Stop showing off TAI.

Do you think that certain supplier actually has sopranos? I think he ships out dead polyps and then goes on vacation hoping the buyer will give up.

Well are there ANY living soprano zoanthids out there?
Last actual photo I saw was a guy down in Costa Rica or someplace south of the border... or maybe he was going diving down there. He had a small colony.

Other than that, nope. I tried twice, first time they hung in for about 3 weeks, the next time melted in two days.

That sounds like the kind of thing VC might help with, though I've only read the first 5 pages of the VC thread, so I'm not sure.

Why, were you dosing it when you introduced them?

Let's not get this thread off-topic... but I have dosed VC on several occasions, per the 'procedure' and noticed absolutely no results other than temporary drops in orp and alk. No effect on livestock at all. But that is another topic.

Should soprano zoas be on the list or be left off? It seems like a bunch of people were able to get them, just not keep them. Also what gets the top spot for now, pink dalmation people eaters, or the sassafrass? Number three spot: purple death or spiderman?

I def think sopranos should be in top 3...i think they are hard to keep because they come from that crappy supplier(everyone knows who im talking about) and no one else has them it seems....personally you can find Purple Deaths on many website....Id put PPE in there too...its hard to find TRUE PPEs

Oh, that stinks, and yes I agree back on topic, sorry about that. Aren't there plenty of zoas out there that are almost never seen. It seems to me that most of them are just not as well known. Take, for example, my personal favorite, Icey Stars. I can't even find a decent pic of them on google, so does that qualify them for this thread or do they have to be better known?

That is the grey area. There are obviously zoas that noone has ever seen or heard of. Let's say to qualify on the list, the zoanthid/palythoa needs to be reasonably attainable. This does not mean that it is readily avaiblable, but it cannot be literally impossible to locate without taking a dive on a reef.

As for sopranos in the top 3, I would have to say they can beat the purple hornets based on availability. I don't think they take the top seat though. The sassafrass' posted are attainable and are not even sold by bad suppliers. Same with the dalmatian people eaters.
I agree on the purple deaths. If you wanted a frag, you could find one tonight and get it shipped.

sucks that this year old colony closed up and died a wile back on me for no reason. it happend just after i added a boost to my clean up crew
