Rarities underwater

Great pictures and fish from the West African coast Luiz!. Only keep one from there (Golden Heart Trigger) but maybe in the future will add some more. Do you have any photos to share of a full size adult GHT in the wild? Thank you!

Steve, I have some more in my computer at home, and I think I have a nice one of Coris hewetti, which is a very nice fish, but I don't have any more here in my laptop.

In the mean time, here is one from Guam, not so rare (especially in Micronesia), but only rarely exported to the US, Centropyge shepardi:

Steve looking for flames that aren't in prison???!!! Good chatting with you. Excited about the future. T

And here one of my personal favorites, a pair of Genicanthus personatus:

Photographed at 20m deep in Pearl and Hermes Atoll (Northwestern Hawaiian Islands).

I hear these guys sell for $10k+ :eek1: is that right???

Last pair I heard sold for 30k.

I dont think they actually sold for 30K thats just what the "asking" price was. More or less just to stir up some interest.

Very nice Shepardi.
Did you see many flames ie. Marquesa flames?
Steve

They were relatively common there, but very, very hard to photograph, I didn't take a single decent underwater photo of them (edit: actually, looking back at it, I don't think I have a single good underwater photo of a flame anywhere, they don't like to pose much). I did however collect a few for scientific purposes, but I wouldn't dare showing pictures of dead fish here :fun4:

Here is another pretty fish, Apolemichthys arcuatus, photographed at 15m deep in Midway Atoll:

Hi Luiz, is the bandit classified under the genus Apolemichthys or Holacanthus? I've seen it both ways. Thanks.

Then is the Holacanthus classification outdated? I've seen that used in multiple online site, including retailers and Fishbase, which mentions it as a synonym.

It was originally described as Holacanthus, but now it is placed in Apolemichthys. I have no idea why people still sometimes call it Holacanthus...

Peter: I never saw P. regalis in the trade...

blah blah blah ;)

MORE PICTURES!!!!

Sadly, I am running out of rare fish photos!!! Still have a few though :)

Here is a nice little group of Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis that I photographed at about 40m depth in Kwajalein Atoll (Marshall Islands):

There was one nice terminal male taking care of this harem but I couldn't stay long enough at those depths to get a good shot.

Wow, makes me really want to have a nice harem of these. I already have 2 females and looking to add hopefully a terminal male. And there are so many other fish I want to add :D
