Rarities underwater

WOW, incredible pictures! That is why I want to make scuba diving my next sport & to see them in their natural environment!

That is one great looking hybrid... P. imperator and P. chrysurus overlap along the Indian Ocean coast of Africa, and the species that I posted above are from the Atlantic coast of Africa. But I did some diving in the Seychelles not long ago and all I saw was "normal" fish...

Now, these odd lines in the hybrid you showed reminded me of a really odd looking Acanthurus lineatus that I saw in Christmas Island (Indian Ocean) last year:

This guy doesn't look like a hybrid, just something really odd, maybe a genetic defect.

Genetic defect = 1000% markup haha. Absolutely beautiful.

Just got back from vacation and was looking for more pics to post... Couldn't find it for awhile, not a sticky anymore?

So here we go, first a not so rare one but pretty, Holacanthus passer, photographed in Panama:

And a juvenile Scolopsis photographed at the Seychelles that I am still trying to ID:

Hi Luiz,

Great photos, definitely one of the best threads on here visually.

Have you ever come to Australia to research or go on vacation?

Would be great to see our local specimens photographed by you.

As always, thanks so much for taking the time to share the wonders of the ocean with us :D It's greatly appreciated!!

Have been off the forums for a while and will help to fill the void a bit. Though not all rarities. Rare for the fact that they are so huge and healthy. T

Resurrecting this thread with a couple of pictures I took in Fiji last week. Didn't take many pictures there, the weather was crappy the whole time! :(

Great photos! I hope you don't mind me adding a couple of rare ones (taken over at a friends house, not in the wild):

Borbonius

I love those borbonius anthias. The males get some dark pink and vivid gold coloration in maturity. LVPD186, where did you take that picture?

A local reefer has an amazing tank and let me come over and take some photos. He has a ton of sweet fish.
