RBG Reef * Little White Ocean

Hi Rod

Concerning your BK 160 skimmer, you might run into problems with that sump. Firstly the water level will not be constant, and if you do top-off by hands or ATO into the sump, fresh water will cause the skimmer to not skim for many hours. You should do some testing.

Hi,

I know how will be the top off water in this reef , I´m sure that this will not be a problem. I did this before many times

Best Regards

Very nice build so far! Are you planning on going ULNS at all?

Probably the tank will reach a very low nutrient level by it's self. Inside only 3 tiny fishies, frequently wc, low import, good skimmer,flow.. things like that. I'll not use any specific method like zeovit or brighwheel products, I'm airline pilot so I don't have any way to keep dosing things everyday. I believe that when you balance import with export the water will always keep the necessary quality. Maybe I'll make how I used to do in the old tank. Just some shots of vodka & aa once in a while.

Hi dance, I appreciate your informations. In my last tank my sump was quite the same, just a plastic box. As my friend Denadai said the way to keep watter level is simple. Equal the inflow with the outflow (ball valves). When you have it the watter will keep it's level. Now you setup your topoff. I always use gravity & float. The watter level will stay very accurate. It really work. But there is a problem here. When you have a power shortage sump level will increase. When power returns, skimmer will overflow, so here comes Reef Keeper to retard skimmer outlet.

A good tank begins with knowledge and good equipments. That's what I can see in this thread.
Wish you luck with the new adventures.

Very nice stand! What kind of material was used and how was that nice white finish achieved?

Thanjs Logzor... Stand was made with hardboard and then coverd with this white texture. That's it!

hey bro! keepin it secret from us brazilians?? hahaha
Lets see what you and denadai have for us to see!
Good job and good luck!

Hi there Rodrigo. I PM'd you a while ago about your last tank and you told me it was taken down. I loved your previous tank, and am certain this one will be very beautiful.

I am setting up a very similar tank:

28 L x 20 W x 18 H

ATI Sunpower 6x24 watts

Bubble Magus NAC6

Eheim 1250 Return

2 x Vortech MP10's

I am going with rimless/braceless tank with a white glossed cabinet.
I see that Denadai is going for a similar setup too. His tanks are very nice too. So I look forward to seeing how our tanks progress.

I have two questions regarding your tank: What is the thickness of your display tanks glass? It looks like 10mm, I am not sure whether to go with 10mm or 12mm?

What model is the Eheim pump? I am thinking of going with the Eheim 1250 so that the pump does not transfer too much heat into the water.

Thanks.

This is a very clean setup and well planned, will follow this thread for sure, congrats Rodrogo!!!

thank you!

What's up sahin! Thank you! Your future tank seems that will be very good.

Yes you are right, display tank is 10mm. Your tank has same sizes. I believe 10mm is safe. My Eheim is the 1262 model. It's a strong pump but I'll need to split a good amount of watter for the chiller here. In my country no way to go without it. If your 1250 is for return only it should be fine.

No baffles, I prefer the sump whitout it. More space to move things...

More progress today. Finished return plumbling and now I'm just waiting the acrilic overflow box that has already been shipped to install it. I also add the sand today.

Wow love the attention to detail!! The white cabinet and and white PVC with Red valves make it look like bubble king belongs in the sunp.
How many gallons does your RO water container hold?

I am going to rebuild my stand someday. I like mine, I just like yours better :)

looks nice, i wish i did that with my sand bed but i had to do what my gf said lol

I can understand that! :lmao:

Thank you! Yes I really enjoyed that white/red style too. To be true I didn't calculate it yet, but I believe it will hold approximately 5 gallons.

I wouldn't worry to much about the baffles. I used to just have a tote under my tank and it worked just fine. Just make sure to have the drain line close to the skimmer out put so that the skimmer is skimming the water coming from the tank.
I would also recomend using Warner Marines EcoBak pellets. I have had great sucess with achieving ULN's without the fuss of cyano and other nasty algaes. It is very inexpensive as far as bio pellets go.

Do you have the total cost of the tank and stand and sump minus the skimmer and the light?

Wow, looks very sleek. Looks too good already!

But what is this gizmo?

Whatever that thing is, it looks cool.
