RBTA Split

8 weeks ago a local advertised RBTA's for $25...said his were splitting like crazy, so I bought one. From day one it opened up and was nice and pretty. After 2 weeks my Perc decided he/she liked it, much to our delight. It's really cool behavior to watch her protect and feed the host. Night before last I noticed the nem appeared to be moving a bit. When I got up yesterday morning my clown was acting odd so I investigated further, only to see that my RBTA had split and the clown was going back and forth between the two, apparently confused. Cool stuff! I'm amazed that it split so quickly after being "born" itself.

I'm sure others will chime in soon enough but, a rapidly splitting anemone AND a mobile anemone are two signs that you have a stressed anemone.

I just had one split too. It moved to the back of the tank after I'd kalk pasted some aiptasias that were growing at the base of it. The next day I had two of them. I assume that the kalk must have irritated it.

They don't always split from stress, but that's usually been the case for me. Sometimes my old one would split after I changed a t5 bulb. I usually do water tests after a split, just ot be safe.

I would be happy to let the new one go but I have no idea how I would get his "foot" out of the hole it is firmly attached to.

Point a small powerhead at him, after a couple hours-days he will probably move, and as he'd moving you can gently massage his foot off the rock. Then again, if you want 2 anemone's, just leave em alone!
