RE: Losing SPS - Help!

I need some advice because my sps are starting to rtn.

My 120 gallon tank's been up and running for a little over a year and my sps were flourishing. Then a couple of weeks ago, i lost a couple of frags and small colonies. It got to the point where I was losing at least one every couple of days.

I had my water professionally tested (like 15 different tests) and while some things tested higher or lower than normal, there was not a single smoking gun, and that includes alkinility, calcium, magnesium, , natrates, temperature and salinity.

I bought a different brand of salt and proceeded to do a 50% water change and that seemed to correct the problem for about a week. But now it's started again. I've lost three more sps in the last three days.

A couple of other things...

- I know it's not my lighting because I just switched out my 20k radiums (I did this after the problem first started, so I know it's not the cause)
- I also just recently bought a grounding plug in case there was an electrical current.

Any suggestions? I'm prepared to do another water change but that didn't help the first time. I'm absolutely at wits end!

Also, what are you water params? TDS reading coming from RO/DI unit?

+1 on metal theory too. I had a cheap heater crack one time and was rusting. Lost some corals before discovering and I use higher end heaters now to ensure it does not happen again. Luckily I just lost a few heads of Frogspawn and Xenia but everything else bounced back as I did some major water changes. Did not have any SPS in at the time but I would not throw them out. I've seen SPS come back from a single polyp:)

Any pests spotted on the dead corals? Also, are there any deformities such as excess mucus, loose tissue, etc?

If you have the tools, do an examination on a piece that is nearly dead. Then you can begin to see if the problem is chemically, mechanically (other animal) or biologically related.

Were phosphates included in that testing you did?
