Real messed up zoas

I've had some frags turn with brownish tinge as closed. I've dipped in Lugols before or peroxide dips and helped out. You can try to use a very soft toothbrush to try to brush off the brownish film or algae.

How do dips work? Do I have to go out and buy a commercial one, or can I make a homemade one? I'll see if I can find a nice soft toothbrush to brush them. They are actually looking a bit better now then they were when I took these pictures. Fingers crossed for recovery.

So, I was recently doing some intensive research into zoa pests and predators, and I found two things that may have caused a problem. A spaghetti worm and a spinoid worm. Both hitchhiked on the rock, and both are irritators. Obviously those aren't the whole problem, but recently both moved to a different rock. That might be why some are looking better. I'm definitely going to do a Peroxide dip once I get more info. Any tips on that?

Search Threads here. some people were doing 50/50 Hydro/rodi , I take water from main tank and use it in the dip in a separate bucket. some do less peroxide... its pretty harsh on Z's and can stress em but its useful on pests and algae.

So, I did the dip and I found the coolest hitchhiker ever. Its a tiger pistol shrimp and its very small. Smaller than a coke bottle cap, but only by a little. What do I feed it? Should I just put it back in the tank? I feel like it will just die, but its been doing fine for a week...

But yeah, the zoas seem to be doing much better after the dip. All the brown stuff is gone. Today I went to the store and bought a new powerhead and light. I think the zoas are going to have a nice recovery!

Actually they are on the opposite side of the tank. Also, the power head is pointing towards the surface, so that helps. About how many watts of light should I have per gallon? Currently, I only have 18 watts in my 20 gallon tank, and that's actinic. I hope to set up another 18 watt bulb of 10000k reef Sun, but I'm not a very diy person. Suggestions?

I'd go with a new light completely, 18W of Actinic is not definitely not enough. I'm running 48W of light over my 10g (24W Actinic, 24W 10k) and I feel like I don't have enough light some times.

Thank you for telling me. I would look at the tank and go, "Why is it so dark?" I figured that I needed at least twice the amount of watts as gallons in the tank. I have T8's, and I don't know how to hook up more, because I have a single strip holder. Any ideas?

Get a t5ho system... The watts per gallon really does not work, but if anything you want to shoot for 4x. For example i have 4x 54 watt T5s on my 55 gallon, some people have 6 for the more light intensive corals. You also don't want just actnic, that could be why they are not opening up for you.

Actually, I have an actinic and an 8000k while I save up my money. All in all, 36 watts over the tank. I go T8 because its cheaper and I earn 10 dollars a month. I'm only 14. No job. If you could tell me of an 18 inch T8 with 40 watts, That would totally be my next purchase, and I agree that I need more light. I know this is an expensive hobby and all, but you learn from trial and error. But again, know of any 18 inch T8's that are 40 watts?

Or, if you knew a cheap option (under 40 dollars) that allowed me to get an under 20 inch light thingy that had 80 watts, then please tell me.

Okay, so I went on a bit of a rant there. I have a high wattage metal halide (I think). Could I use that to grow the corals? I would still have my actinics and my 8000k, I just want to know if these would fill the gap.
