really strange gray shrimplike shell

Just blew out my back 20gallons, and a strange fragment blew up front---a gray item the same shades as a paper-wasp's nest, that looks shrimpish, if it were from the sides of the shrimp. It's about an inch and a half long, appears to have segmentations, but those could be illusion. Try to net it and it wisps off under the ledge. I fear bringing my corals down.

I got my live rock from a reefer who was moving, and it's pretty live. It's been up since January, and I check at night, and I've never seen a hitchhiker this size. I did lose two 3 big peps and a cleaner to a rabbit (now gone), and do not know if this could be a remnant from that.

I wondered about mantids, but have heard no clicks or noises. I have had no disappearances----only the appearance of this one anomalous relic.

Ideas?

It worries me. If it should be a mantis, it isn't tiny. But I've added nothing a mantis could arrive on for the last 4 months and seen nothing, day or night, nor had any fish disappearances. Very odd.
