Really weird snail ID help

I was looking at my tank and immediately a orange thing caught my eye. At first i thought it was a nudi or something but a close look and it seemed like a keyhole limpet snail but covered in something. It almost looked like a huge orange flatworm??? I took it out and whatever it is seems a part of the snail. It seems like a keyhole but covered in something orange and alive

No idea but here are the pics. Any idea????

What is the orange thing over it??? I have a bunch of other keyholes but they are regular. This thing is almost like it is inside out and the snail is outside of the shell but you can still clearly see the shell under the orange covering. I have never seen anything like this when people talk about keyholes?

Anyone have a scientific name for it??

Is it reefsafe?

the orange part is the sail's mantel, if you touch it, it should retract. I think most limpets are reef safe but not 100% on what you have. You may want to try posting in the invert forum for a better ID

Thank you VERY much!!! Thats exactly what it is. Weird, i had never even heard of them much less seen one. I could only find 1 pic in a google search but that is definitely it!

Cant decide if i should put it back in or not, leaning towards not going back in the reef(although it is pretty nice looking).

What do you think, back in the display or banished?

I dont know? Hopefully not corals.

I can say that he must poop alot. There are about 10-15 little black pellets in the bowl i left him in overnight. Its alot of poop for 1 small snail to do in 1 night:eek2:

Any expert advice on wether to put him back in my display???

generally limpets are 50/50 at best. some are algae eaters, some are sponge or coral eaters. its one of those creatures you will need to keep an eye on if you keep it in the tank.

im no expert though

Although this guys color would make him hard to disappear, there is way too much coral and live rock for him to get lost in inside my display. Guess hes going in the sump or my 36g.
