Reccomendation for 120

Roger,

Heres another one.

I have an AGA 120 48x24x24. Two corner overflows. Two returns. One closed loop w/ seaswirl (two outlets). I also have a Gemini pump/powerhead in front left corner that I would like to remove.

Inhabitants are mostly SPS, very open structure, with some softies such as Xenia & mushrooms (on bottom).

I would like to replace the Gemini with a Tunze Stream(s). I definitely would like the variable speed, but am somewhat confused by all the options.(controllable vs not controllable, which controller needed)

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim

If you liked the Gemini alot you might consider our Turbelle Classic pumps. They are outwardly similar but use an asynchronous motor than can be controlled and they also can be rebuilt pretty much indefinitely as they have been available for 20+ years. On a 120 what pumps you choose wil depend alot on the inhabitants. For softies or LPS I would use either 2 4002 and a 7082/2 controller or 2 7400/2 and a 7094 controller. In each case the controller is essentially the same. For both pumps you will set a min and max speed between 30% and 100% of power. You will set an interval from 1-7 sec and the pumps will pulse between these speeds as you set. You can have both pumps just pulse or you can set it to tide mode where one pump will be on and pulse from 1min-12 hours and then the other pump will take over. The 7082/2 includes variable power sockets that run the 4002. The 7094 connects to the 7400/2 through a 5pin DIN port on the pumps driver. If you are mainly into SPS the 6000 Streams would be a good choice and will also work with the 7094. Any pump labeled Turbelle Electronic whether regular or Stream is compatible with the controllers. If it labeled Turbelle Powerhead it is not. The Turbelle Classic are compatible with the appropriate adapters, Classic pumps with adapters and any Electronic pumps can be combined and used together on the controllers- up to 8 pumps in total.

I forgot to mention a couple things- the Turbelle Classic are electrically water proofed- falling in the water will cause damage but you won't get electricuted- they will need new bearings if this happens. The newer submersible models generally last 10 years. It is hard to say exactly how long the newest ones will last as the plastic technology has improved so much and our newest plastic is really top notch. I have several pumps that are 5+ years old myself.

I like the Gemini, and it is not broken, I am just looking for an improvement. The Gemini is great for moving water, but it is a very direct flow. I am looking to take advantage of the "wider" flow of the Stream pumps.

Thanks,
Jim
