Receding Prism

I have a reverse prism that I noticed today has a little area of tissue that has started to recede. Everything else in the tank is showing growth and no signs of issue. I am struggling with trying to locate the reason for this recession. Any one have ideas on what to look for? I will post parameters tomorrow. The coral has been in the tank about 3 months and growing well up to this point.

Lighting or flow too strong? Do you have other favias?

It could have been stung by something close by. I'd give it a dip and maybe move it to a bit lower light and flow.

Well I dipped the coral and have a new area now of recession on the prism. I also have moved it to a new location in the tank. I am stumped by why this coral is slowly receding around the edge. The coral does have a slight algae on it that is not found any where else in the tank.

I do have a handful of other favias that are unaffected. I have moved the receding coral to a new spot in the tank, but the flow and lighting hasn't changed since I put the coral in the tank back at the beginning of March and this recession just started.

Blue Hippo Tang
Scopas Tang
Lieutenant Tang
Pajama Cardinal (2)
Orange Lined Cardinal (3)
Lyretail Anthia (2)
Tail Spot Blenny

Cleaner Shrimp
Blue Leg Hermits (handful)
Astraea Snails (handful)

few options:

1. One of the tangs nipping at the coral. Take few steps back from the tank and watch it for for awhile. Maybe you'll notice something.

2. Pests: check the reef at night 1 hour after lights out. Look for crabs or big worms.

3. Natural cause: well, you can do nothing about it..

I have a favites with similar recession, but in the middle of the colony. It came in damaged. The recession grew and I FW dipped it. It was hard on the coral but it recovered. Now I'm in a slow battle to get regrowth over that spot. I have a light algael growth that looks similar. I find if I clean the area regularly with a soft toothbrush, it will make progress. Let it go a week, loose progress.

I try and be gentle but my priority is to get the gunk out. I might smooth out some of the skeleton to make it harder to catch debris.

I have had experienced this in my tank now that i run leds. Is that the kind of lighting you have?
In my tank if the colony is on an angle, the led's light doesnt wrap around the piece as other lighting systems do and the pieces i had receeded due to lack of light getting to it.

As soon as i placed the colonies flat facing the leds the recession stopped and growth restarted...

Not sure that is the issue with your tank but ive had about 5 colonies that had similar situation.

Had time to test water. Will get a picture later when I get a chance to clean the glass.
120 gal tank, 6 months old, been stable the whole time, low bio load, two clowns, yellow watchman, favia was the first coral added about 3 months ago, montipora spongodes was added at the same time has growth, the favia grew over the sides of the frag and recently started to grow onto rock but now is looking white on that edge with some skeleton appearing to show. It also seems to have a lot of pods crawling around that area, some are long skinny pods.
Lumintek pro 240 light, reef octopus 150 skimmer in 30 gal sump
Salinity 1.025
Nitrate 0
Calcium 420
Alk 7.2 dKh (I have been dripping kalk)
Mg 1280 ( just added mg to try and raise 100ppm)
The favia also recently divided many of the mouths and I haven't seen feeder tentacles at night in a few days.
