Just picked this guy up from a local LFS. I saw the foot and couldn't say no.

I am sure its a BTA.. but never seen one like it. It just came out of the bag and was acclimating in a container hence the deflated everything.. I will update in a few days with better pictures.

Actually, I think that might be a magnifica.

You do see purple footed BTAs from time to time, but the tentacles on your nem look like a mag to me.

It is hard to tell now but I think it is a Magnifica also. Care for a Magnifica is very different from a BTA. They are also much harder to keep and don't survive shipping very well. Goodluck

I was thinking that at first.. but it actually had bubble tips at the LFS when I bought it.. I will get a better picture tonight when I Get home from work..

thanks for the replies though!

Looks to be magnifica but a couple of the tentacles says bta... But a better picture can clarify it... Either way nice pickup for $40.

Tough to say, the way the tentacles form rows looks BTA, but the way it sits and the foot look magnifica (verrucae??).

Either way excellent looking nem, if it is a mag deflation cycles are not good, best of luck and keep an eye on it either way... more pics :)

The first day it moved onto a rock near high flow.. stayed there for 1-2 days then decided to move again and has settled to this location you see now in lower flow.

Lighting is currently only 6500k daylights and a bit of 450blues. It has several 10watt white LED's over the tank and is only 12" deep. This is a growth tank for SPS corals then they are moved to a "coloring up" tank after. (I don't think the monti likes the nem on it.. oh well.. I have tons of that.. Nem is priority 1 over monti caps.

I'm going to go with BTA. I have one, that is now two, with the purple base that looks like yours. BTAs, Entacmaea quadricolor, prefers to attach inside a cave/hole in the liverock.

If I'm wrong, and it turns out to be a magnifica (but I don't think it is) it will position itself on top of a flat, preferably smooth piece of live rock--looking like an oak tree on the plain.
