It's the left coaster's making the claim (at least one in particular that my old boss seems to routinely butt heads with in the literature and at AFS meetings).

Aren't most groundfish fisheries globally in trouble?

All the ones I know about, though my focus as been primarily east coast stuff. Interestingly, after googling some more recent stuff, it seems that one fisheries guy I was thinking of has changed his tune to a degree and now seems to be agreeing that groundfish are generally in trouble from overfishing pressures. Though he still seems to largly disagree with the effects of fishing on size selection and the subsequent effect on a given fishery that my old boss supports.
