Recommendation for a 51"x28"x32" Mixed Reef

Hi Roger, my tank is 51"x28"x32" (LxHxW) with a left hand weir that extends 2/3s the way across (back to front) and has two bommies. I currently have a single Vortech MP40 which isn't enough flow and I don't particulary like....It has mostly LPS but will have some SPS soon.

I'm looking to replace it with two Tunze pumps controlled by my GHL Profilux - should I get two 6105's or two 6205's given the tank is quite wide at 32"? Or what about two 6105's with the 6205 shroud to give wider flow? I can't suppliment with a Wavebox I don't think as the tank has brace bars all round and the water level is about 1/2" below them. Regards, Andy

Hi Andy,

The 6205.130 shrouds are an expensive upgrade and the 6105 flow will be fairly weak at the far end after this mod. I would just go for the 6205.

Hi Roger, thanks for that, just to clarify do you mean I should go with two 6205's?

Ok, a bit more thought on this option is required if you please....I'm reading on here that a good starting position would be on the back walls at each end firing across which I could accomodate but I'm confused about the different programming options for flow - I'm thinking each pump wants to pulse with one being more dominant for 6 hours then swap, is that right?

I'd be controlling the two 6205's via the GHL Profilux - I know you know you're own controllers but does anyone having any recommendations for doing this with GHL? One of the things i do like about my Vortech is the modes are pre defined....

The only controllers I have used are our own so I can't help with the GHL, our controllers also use predefined modes like sequence, interval, pulse and storm.

Nothing is carved in stone, you have to find what works for you but that is the starting point we recommend that most closely simulates natural flow. The concept is that the pulse simulates the surge and crashing of waves and the interval change simulates the tides.

Thanks Roger, I appreciate it's controller specific. I'll throw it open to the GHL forum. FYI, the GHL's modes are completely customizable, I'm just being lazy and asking for ideas as you have to start from scratch, lol. Cheers, Andy
