Can anyone here recommend some good literature on reef chemistry. I know many books out there cover this topic in a generalized sense but I was hoping someone might know of something they found to be exceptionally good. Any other suggestions on good reading material for other topics would be great as well.

Thanks!!

Kris

Great links above, however if you are feeling particularly challenged and are looking for good marine chemistry texts, I'd suggest books by Stephen Spotte. It's certainly not light reading, but it's great info. You can preview one of his books on Amazon.

I like:
Captive Seawater Fishes: Science and Technology
and
Fish and Invertebrate Culture: Water Management in Closed Systems
or a earlier work
Seawater Aquariums: The Captive Environment

Martin Moe also has several nice books that are very readable. You don't need a chemistry degree to follow them and they are well written.

Marine Aquarium Handbook: Beginner to Breeder
or
The Marine Aquarium Reference: Systems and Invertebrates

Martin Moe had many early marine husbandry successes, his tale of raising Orchid Dottybacks over 14 years ago is still quite good today for those interested in breeding fish:
Breeding the Orchid Dottyback, Pseudochromis Fridmani: An Aquarist's Journal

-Rob

For breeding attempts I suggest:

Clownfishes by Joyce Wilkerson
The Complete Illustrated Breeder's Guide to Marine Aquarium Fishes by Matt Wittenrich
and
How to Raise & Train Your Peppermint Shrimp by April Kirkendoll

Go Algra, get all educated and stuff! I got all 3 of the holy grails if you want to borrow them. Or should I say Julian Sprung books Reef Aquarium V1-3 if your in for some real light reading, or if you want to become a marine biologist. Swing by if you want to borrow them, than you can teach me a thing or two.....

Great information thanks everyone. Spent several hours reading through the links on the chem forum last night.

I will be starting my very first 120g starphire in wall tank build soon and am doing everything I can to get educated as much as possible before I get anywhere near the actual water phase of the build. When the time is right I will post the start of my build for now I am still acquiring all my equipment, but recently finished welding up the stand.

Again thanks to everyone, you will be hearing more from me in the future.
