We use a ton of flourescent bulbs in our hobby, as you all are aware. What you may not be aware of is what is inside those bulbs. Many (maybe all, I'm not sure) flourescent bulbs contain mercury and other toxic chemicals. I know a lot of non-hobbyists who just throw away their dead tubes. That got me thinking about how often we change our bulbs and what happens to them. Maybe everyone already knew this, but I thought I should throw it out there.
The local trash people here hold quarterly speacial collections for toxic household waste and will recycle them. Not sure what works in other areas.
