I'm trying to establish caulerpa in a mineral mud sump, Its been hard work so far, I'm on to my third batch..

One concern is the presence of a red algae, Please could someone id it and tell me what the next course of action is with it..

Many thanks

It's just red hair algae.
Remove the nutrients from the excess nutrients from your water and it will disappear.

oops. just one "nutrients" in that sentence.

Remove the excess nutrients from your water and it will disappear.

I have very low phophate & nitrate in the system, I think that why I'm have problem establishing the caulerpa in the sump.. I really don't want to add rowaphos to the setup and completely remove the phosphate, I'm hoping that soon the caulerpa will take of and out compete the red hair algae.

I believe that is the sporophyte of Asparagopsis. Try looking it up here at RC.

I have used an oxidator with a 5% peroxide solution.
After the night all the red algae was white and it was easy to
remove then with a toothbrush.

My invertebrates were not happy, but it seems that everything will come allright.

I have the same problem.
As a last resort I used an oxidator.
Before the lights went out I filled the oxidator and the next morning all the red algae where white.
This evening I used a toothbruch and bruched all the white
stuff away

In the picture below I used Oxidator A

It uses about 150 ml HydrogenPeroxide and a catalisator
