on the edge of the sandbed, toward the surface, against the glass, i can see the sand has turned red and green.... like in patches (under the surface)

is this the good bacteria?

begining of the bad, look like hugh nutrients, low flow in those area...you should beging to see cyno out break...water change, water change and stop the feedings.

It's algae and IMO is only happening at the edges of the tank since the light travels down through the glass and from room light.

The only way you could stop it is by keeping the SB sterile regardless of the flow.

Supernareg: How deep is your sand bed? If you are describing the area within your sand bed beneath the surface, I believe that your describing a purple-ish, reddish and green algae that grows on your glass beneath your sand bed...IMO is a form of coralline algae that's forming on your glass between the sand bed and display glass. However, this could be a bloom of red slime - cynobacteria. In that case, you should test your water for nitrate no3 and phosphates po4. If the readings are high, buy a container of red slime remover, disconnect you skimmer for about two days...add a airstone to your display, use the product and perform a 35% water change and employ a phsoban reactor. THAT's a worst case senario type of deal!!!

Keep us posted...especially if you have photos of this algae growth.

ya i have chemiclean, so if cyano breaks out i'll use that, but so far, i thnk its from over feeding, i'll tone down feedings a bit

I feel my tank has more than adequate flow. hmmmm

A "marine" tank can never have too much flow.

Overfeeding causes phosphates to take over in the tank. Are you growing macro in the fuge yet? Best way to help extract those unwated nutrients. I decided to run some RowaPhos so I can keep my fish nice and fat with their feeding. Are you using RO/DI water? One top off using tap can cause a brown film on your sand bedt or tank walls.

Skimming wet also helps out alot.

Check out my reply to your post on your refugium lighting, supernareg.
