Red Carpet to dangerous?

Holy cow, insane color carpet. Do you think there's a great chance for my pygmy angel (c. joculator) being caught by this carpet? I would love to get a carpet for my reef, but I can't risk my fish being eaten.

Thanks,

There is always a chance of any fish being eaten. I have lost a lot, I seriously lost count. Its usually when you think everything is fine, then one of your fish is missing. I then wake up to the pile of bones the next day. Its the price I am willing to pay. Are you?

There is a chance of fish being eaten.. That's what anemones do. Mine hasn't bothered anything yet... I'm no expert but I think that one is dyed. I don't think the column is supposed to be the colour of the anem. It should be beige. Need a better shot of the column.

I'm not going to risk it. I love my fish too much. Thanks for all your input everyone.
I don't think it's dyed. It's on sale at Cquarium.com. You can email Adam about the anemone.

Thanks,

James

Just curious, how much was the price tag?
I didn't purchase the anemone yet, but the price is $500.

great color lots of people have carpets i would love a list of all the fish eating experiences so we can truly understand how bad/good these guys are

I think I am seeing purple spots on the column. If that is true, then it is a gigantea and there is very little danger to your fish. Just a danger to your pocket book.
I heard rumors that red giganteas were going to be available soon.

I saw that nem the night they posted it for sale. The pic is beautiful but I think this place 'enhances' their photos. If you look at their website, you'll see what I mean.
I've also seen the same 'wysisyg' photo for a coral/invert that is listed on ebay auctions and on their website which is a little fishy.
If that's a true red gigantea, its worth the $500. But of course, I'd buy it and it would die within a week :(

cquarium posts items on ebay as well as their site.

You might be right Phil, that would be something else if it is a gigantea. I hope those rumors are correct as well.

FYI, it's sold, I guess I'll never know. :(

Hi guys,

I would like to clear up a couple of things:

1. Cquarium.com doesn't list on Ebay. However, I have a close old customer (Ray) with special needs who does sell on Ebay. Ray needs to stay occupied due to special circumstances and he asked me to use my pictures and products to sell on Ebay. I have no connection with his Ebay operation except the pictures.

2. The Red carpet anemone is not dyed just like the rest of our high end CRAZY corals Like James stated. Also, we don't alter or use photoshop. The only thing we do to our pictures is darken/lightn them. Sometimes we use flash and I make sure to mention it. I have contacted the buyer of this stunning anemone to send a picture. This carpet is the Haddoni type in which I have never seen this color in Gigantea (and if I see one, I will keep it :) .)

Happy new year and reefing to all.
Adam

I still hope the rumors are true Phil.

I have personally seen a couple red giganteas. It was about 5 years ago.
Whether or not the rumor is true that there will be some available, remains to be seen.

Hey Adam, If you are still following this thread, why do you say that that is a haddoni in the picture. I think it pretty clearly is a gigantea. Are you just going by the tenticle length or are you looking at the spots on the underside too?

Adam- it would be great if you'd actually identify the species of carpet anemone being sold on your site. Just a suggestion.
Somebody here on RC sent me an email addy for a guy named John Boe and I've lost it. I need to get in touch with him. If you can help out please PM me. TIA
