I still have that pink Crispa. Its about doubled in size and if I don't get a bigger tank soon, I may have to sell it. It already ate my Helfrichi. Got spooked and darted right into it.

Gigantea do not live in the sand. They are rock anemone.
My purple Mag is not a special Mag. He is lavender column and white-light yellow tips. Under high K light he may look like he have green tip but not really. The picture you saw, I think is taken under Radion at 100% all color, which is bluish white light color.
My Nice Magnifica, all three of them died due to infection brought on by a newly imported Magnifica. That was what start me to really get on the ball and start to treat anemone with antibiotic

I currently have 11, only 2 have attached through the sand. Both are attached through the sand, right next to a rock, column is touching the rock on the sand, going through the sand to the bottom of the tank. Only 1" of sand. And, I'm quite sure, I could easily coax the 2 to move, and attach to rocks. They seem happiest in a rock crevice, between 2 rocks, or a hole in a rock to put their foot into.
x2. nemmy, I would treat it no matter what, you'll be happy you did from the first minute in your possession months/years from now. I know some don't, and get away with not treating. They can go through treatment easily. They can take weeks to show signs and go downhill, with a tough battle back. Get it out of the way early before it sets in. All mine have been treated when first acquired. A royal pain to treat, time consuming, expensive for salt/water, but looking back, I'd do it exactly the same.

I think you confused that with S. mertensi which is the only indo-Pacific carpet anemone that lives on rocks.
Yes, giganteas attach their foot to a rock but usually you find them on rubble or on sandy zones with scattered rocks right below the low tide line. Even if they are on some rocks there is always also a patch of sand or coral rubble.

In aquarium and likely in the wild Gigantea don't hide their column in the sand like Haddoni. They attach to large rock or rock right at the sand rock interface.
Haddoni on the other hand attach to rock under the sand. In this way I consider Gigantea a rock anemone instead of a sand animal like Haddoni, Doreensis or Malu. These three attach to rocks deep under the sand surface. In aquarium, we don't have to have a sand bed to keep Gigantea happy, which is not the case with Haddoni, Malu or Doreensis. In this way I consider Gigantea as a rock anemone.
Vincent did not get a Gigantea because he have a bare bottom tank. I just want to let him know that sand is not needed for Gigantea.
I love RC, reefers here always keep us on our toes. Almost all the time, reefers who posted bogus information are always (almost always) challenge. Sometime this ruffle some feather but over all, information here on RC are often accurate.

Lame shot but here it is. I'm not home and I asked for a picture of the mouth. Got some stringy expelling but closed pretty tight. I'll get better shots later. FedEx guy pushed it to the edge on delivery. 12pm guaranteed, delivered at 11:59am. I was expecting it to be here around 10 so I could have more time to get it in qt. Its in a DT where I'm not at all worried of infection spread. Doubt this BTA will get it.
This tank is fallow so I don't have to worry about a clown harassing it.
Under daylight its purple, under 20k its blue.

If you have a turkey baster handy, definitely get rid of the brown crud (most likely dead zoox) from its mouth. My hypothesis is that the longer the nem is exposed to dead zoox, the less likely chance of recovery. I'm guessing that the dead zoox may contain bacteria that causes the infection.
Turkey baster should be in every reefers toolkit! I do but I'm at work for another 2 hours. My fiance is home but last thing I need is her to have lotion on and send my vertex skimmer batty. I'll be sure to get rid of the zoox when I get home if it isn't already gone. My vortechs are turned to the minimum right now or they would have kicked it loose. I didn't want to leave a new nem with my vortechs blasting without me home, even if I'm running foam covers. I really need to get the wireless vortech module for my apex then I could give him a quick blast with that remotely.
