Red fuzzy dwarf lion VS ghost shrimp

I've had my red fuzzy dwarf lion fish for about 4 months now, he lives on a staple diet of silver sides and whole krill. I've wanted to try and feed live food for quite some time now so I picked up a few ghost shrimp and gut loaded them on formula 1. I only feed every other day so most of the time, what ever I put in the tank he will go for right away. Today was no exception. This video is of the second ghost shrimp I put in the tank, so he wasn't quite as in a hurry as the first one but he still went fairly quickly. when you see the lion about to get the shrimp slow it down frame by frame, you can see his mouth open to about an inch wide and suck the shrimp in, REALLY COOL! Any way hope you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed feeding him!

I would be careful about getting him too used to ghost shrimp. Mine wouldnt eat anything but that. I even tried a 10 day starvation attempt to get him on frozen. I finally just went back to the ghost shrimp because he started to look skinny.

It is fun to watch though, they have a funny distraction technique they use with their fins before they pounce.

How often do you feed?

I usually offer a couple of times a week. He ate two guppies last night, which was the first time I have actually witnessed him eating while in captivity.

I feed every other day, do you leave your power heads on? Mine blow the krill/silver sides around and it looks like they are alive, he goes right for them.

for those who want to feed frozen insted of live....

FWIW, I have weaned 2 different adult lions(dwarf fuzzy and a volitan) that had always been fed live off on to eating prepared foods.

It took a little bit of effort. But what i did was make a upside down hook of sorts that would hold food, but not actually do any hooking. I would then not feed the fish but instead jig food attached to my hook and line through the tank. It took almost 2 months to wean the volitan off and about 3 weeks for the dwarf. I of course gave in a few times and fed them live throughout the process but was successful in the end and never had to deal wiht feeders again. They at first would nail it but spit it out.....but i kept trying.......and it was kind of fun. lol

Just thought id throw that out there if you want to try it
