To the best of my knowledge, there are no red gigs in captivity. A reputable source saw a couple a at wholesaler in Southern CA many years ago, but none after that. I've seen TONS of photos of "red gigs" but there is never any confirmation. I tend to think the photos are of red haddoni.

when u say tentacle a bit too long, what do you mean by that? about 1/4", 1/2"?
all my haddonis tentacles are about almost 1/2" longnd vibrate harmoneously in the current, as you would see in the tall-grass field during a breezy day. yes haddonis can have a bit longer tentacles.....

If you're talking about Reef Raft in SoCal (versus Canada) and you're talking about the DT in the back, it's a haddoni -- assuming it's the same one I saw a couple of months ago when I was there while visiting Disneyland.

The dealer in this thread was local to me, but I wasn't able to see it in person. I guess it was a haddoni as well.

It's very hard to tell the difference between some gigs and haddonis, and while I think everyone along the chain of custody has some idea of the characteristics -- 90% of those people can't tell the difference. I think there's only a select few who are truly passionate about gigs to know the difference. It's hard to explain, but I now have a "gut reaction" when it comes to species ID, with gigs in particular.
A red gig is the holy grail of anemones to me. I've spoken to quite a few people about this and had it not been for one person who told me that he saw a couple, I'd say they're the unicorns of reefing.

My guess is that it's a mis-labeled or mis-IDed haddoni.

alright... .so anyone in Connecticut.. can do research on this one... its from a LFS called "Greenwich Aquaria"...
ive been trying to contact them and get ahold of them for more pictures, but they just simply wont take more pictures for me, they say its in a hard position to take pictures of it, but the LFS owner said it has purple verracue.. (i wont beleive it till he provides a picure)
i know what you all will say, its a haddoni because its on the sand bed.. But, i have 2 S. gig's thats are on the sand bed next to a rock like that.. sooo .. bu here's a pic

ive seen pics of the DT and it looks simply amazing, looks to be a REALLY nice LFS My thoughts exactly, i first seen this anemone about 2 months ago, thats how long ive been in the works at trying to get more pictures of it... been kind of keeping it hush hush, but im finally at the point where i just want to know what it is already so maybe other enough reefers inquire about it...i wanna see pics of the verracue for sure..
oh and they wont sell it.. lol.. i already tried, they say its not for sale, and when they do decide to sell it they are gonna want $2,000+ for it..
i was ready to jump on a plane and spend a decent amount on it, but not that much.

Camera is not the problem - don't have the first clue on how to include a picture in a post here. Might have to email it to you (send me a PM if u wish). Probably not getting here till next weekend though.
Nothing in that tank is for sale. I've asked about one of the small ritteri - no luck unless it falls off the big rock it's rooted to.

Wow, that's the closet thing I've seen to a red gig. But, unfortunately I am not 100% convinced that it's a gig. It definitely shows some characteristics of a gig, but also of a haddoni.

If given just this photo, what kind of anemone would you say it is? I have seen healthy gigs with long tentacles, but never a healthy gig with short, stubby ones like in the photo above.
I would love to have a positive ID on this nem. It would be such a nice find if it is indeed a red gigantea.
