Nice, but how come the pictures came out so dark? Did you take the picture at night or did you not use flash? It looks like its on the rocks. They like their foot to be in the sand.

It looks like its on the rocks. They like their foot to be in the sand.

I have a long tentacle that has been in my rockwork, by its choice, since last February.

A few anemone species are sold as "LTA". The more common two: M. doreensis prefers sand while H. crispa may actually choose sand or a rock crevice.

The picture was taken under two 250 watt 14k, set white balance, with ISO at 100 and shutter speed at 100. Its kinda dark, but you can see the red fine IMO...

It is midway on the rocks with its foot going down into the rock work. It has found itself a nice little spot and has not moved since. But, it is free to move down into the sand if it wants.

Looks like the M. doreensis, just did a google search and found an identical anemone.

A google search will give you loads of incorrect ID's.

Post a picture of the column, especially the portion under the oral disk, and folks will be able to tell quickly. M. doreensis has very telling verrucae.

If it is a healthy M. doreensis it will likely have a bright red foot as well as distinctive verrucae.

It has a bright red foot and has yellow spotted verrucae... It just moved to the back of my rock work, but is still open, i think the vortech powerhead (4 feet away) is too much flow as it is going to a place with less flow.
Thanks for the info guys, will try to get a new picture, turn up my ISO a little:D

It looks pretty close to this, the tentacles are a little bit thicker than mine, and the foot on this one is a lot less red. The verrucae is exactly the same...

So it is a true red? These are pretty rare right? People are making fun of me on my local billboard that i am too excited about it:D

Yeah i have PC's for supplemental, I probably need to upgrade them to T5's. These USHIO 14k are not the best blue/white in the world, but they do the job.
Thanks

If you replace any lights I would replace it with a 10k . A 14k or a 20k will make the LTAs red not so visible. It is like scuba diving, the first color to disappear is red. I have 2 14k 150wMH bulbs and it makes the greens, blues, purples, and yellows pop. The red coraline in my tank is hard to see untill I take a picture of it. I really like what the 14k's do to the greens in my tank but reds are hard to see now.

Yes that is a red lta and they are rare in the trade. congrats :)

So it is a true red?
As opposed to an un-true red?

It appears to be M. doreensis.
Most commonly available color, green or light brown.
Occasionally a variance of purple.
Occasionally a pink to maroon. It appears yours is in this range.

Who cares what folks call it, enjoy it and may you keep it for many years.
