This was a macro algae that I bought as a small 3 inch piece.
They called it a Fire Engine Red Macro Algae but did not have the actual name of it.
It came unattached to anything and has never attached to any rock etc....
It is fleshy and slimy kind of like rubber almost but it does seem to fall apart semi easily at least in areas where it's thinner.
It floureses orange under the actinic lighting but in regular lighting is pretty much looks red with a hint of orange.
I imagine it grows in the water column as it doesn't seem to need any subtrate or rock. I rubber band it to a rock to keep it in place but it doesn't seem to require it. They said they had it under metal halides but I have it under 2 / 96 watt power compact lights 1 is dual actinic the other is dual daylight. Small pieces that have fallen to the bottom out of any major waterflow flower seem to fare just fine. I received the 3 inch piece in November and currently have pieces as long as about 7 inches. Whenever a large piece breaks off I attach it to a new small piece of rock with a rubber band and just let it grow.
Can anyone ID this.
Sorry that's all the info I have. Sorry there is nothing in the pic for scale but the piece i used for the pic is about 6 - 7 inches long.
thanks
If nothing else it's real pretty.
