Red Planaria Flatworms just discovered in my tank.....

You are cucaracha infested as well, huh?:mixed::lmao:

I ain't gettin' no mandarin. Love them, but it would starve. If the population booms, I may consider a wrasse, would love a mandarin but I'm to afraid I'd kill it. Now that I think about it, I think I saw a few of these a LONG time ago in my tank, just never saw them since. Did a huge water change last night, and spiphoned some out. But they are hard to see because they are tiny, like a tiny pod size. I'm hoping by the end of this month, I'll see a lot less.

Don't get me wrong, there was not a TON of these, maybe 30-40 of them, and they are sooooo small you really have to look to see them so not a big deal (yet). But I look at my tank VERY closely so I notice everything, HAHA!

maybe the flat worms you have are colored so you can't see them lol

If you saw 30-40 of them then I guarantee you that they are hundreds more in hiding. Like I mentioned, I tried Flatworm exit first before I got the Melanurus wrasse and I also thought I only had about 100. Once I put Exit in the tank, Holy $@#&, a least 1000 suckers came out floating. They were everywhere. My frogspawn alone had hundreds that I couldn't see. If it doesn't bother you having them then leave them alone but just know that there are more than 30-40.

Definitly, I realize that. If I start seeing them in increased numbers and all over the rocks (tried to see last night, but only saw on glass), I will definitely get a Melanurus. I was planning on getting one anyway, just wanted to wait until I had more room:hmm1:

Kinda an unrelated question, anyone know if a melanurus wrasse will eat monti nudis? I know there a couple of wrasses that do.

First of all, my clown will beat the **** out of a mandarin. That clown rules that 14 gallon. Loves to bit me too, little punk:blown:

Not for very long, mandarins secret a mucous that will get the clown sick. It won't kill the clown, but it won't bother the mandarin again. I thought my clown would do the same thing, but it's four years later and the mandarin is still around, but I agree, you're tank is too small for a mandarin.

I just found the same flatworms 2 weeks ago. The population boom came along with a green algae bloom. I tried flat worm exit and they came right back so I was just looking for other solutions. I'm starting to think that getting the algae problem fixed will take care of the flat worm issue.

I never did anything rash. Just let it be. I see them on the glass from time to time, but they seem harmless. The ones I have you can only see them on the glass, not on rock or coral (not saying they are not there) There are flatworms that are more conspicuous, maybe those are more threatening?

I have a massive population of these things in my QT tank, though in the process of moving rocks into my DT, I have never seen one there as my dusky wrasse eats them all. May have to do something in the QT though, because the last coral I put in there got covered with the pesky things.

Very strange, I just saw a bloom of these little flatworms in my tank. They are crawling over the glass. They look like this....

What are those white bugs on the glass next to it? I have tons of those that I only see at night. I have caught my black clowns eating them.

Did you add any snails lately? I think these types of flatworms come in on snails. I do not think they are harmless but would rid you tank of them anyway. I Bought a yellow chomis and sixline wrasse and no more flatworms. I think the redones are the reef eaters.

What ever happened with these flatworms? I'm also seeing them too, they multiply fast. And no ill effects on my SPS or other corals as of yet.

What did you end up doing?

Turns out they are harmless. Was a paranoid rookie back then lol. Seen a few in my fuge but they don't bother anything. Blast from the past lol:D

They'll multiply FAST and take over the tank. Don't do much except make your tank ugly and draw your eyes to them instead of the good stuff in there.

Have any of you tried Flatworm Stop - Korallen-Zucht? Does it work any better than the flatworm exit?

Flat Worm Stop isn't a medication to kill the FWs like FW exit. Flat worm stop is simply an amino that you dose daily and helps the coral by making it more slimy and supposedly unpalatable to the FW. Can't prove or disprove this theory. I however can tel you that it does help new frags encrust faster from my experience. I use it on a regular basis and I don't have any FW that I know off.

I had a beautiful pair of Mandarin fishes for two years, l totally fall in love with them, bought a Christmas wrasse and that was the end for my mandarins. Wrasse decided to bully them to death.😢
