Red Planet going from green base to a lite ish almost white

So as it says the red planet (I think it is Red Planet) is going from green base red polyps to a lite ish almost white base with red polyps. Cal= 410, Alk=7.5, Mag=1400, PH=8.2-8.4, ORP 290, Phosphate 0, all tested by me and LFS. Been this way for 8 weeks. Could the water be to clean? I am running a good size skimmer!

Thanks
Mike

Low light = green
higher light = red
white part could be = new growth on either tips or the base..

pics?

Red planet is a great indicator of correct lighting intensity within your system. I try to maintain both green and red on mine. If it gets too green I increase lighting; too red I decrease. Although really I've just been slowly increasing over time and watching for the green to give way to red. At that point I stopped.

Wait so what if my red planet is just all super red everywhere? Too much light?

It's not necessarily too much light. But decreasing the light could bring the green back.

IMO most SPS have the best colors with slightly reduced light intensity. Depends on each species.

Mine is like that too. No green at all. The white turns almost a pink pearly color. I chalk it up to bright light and low nutrients. I like the white over the green anyways so I'm not too concerned.

Sorry just got home. Looks just like the photo but where there is green make the lighter whiter color and the red tip are the same.

so this happened just after i added two more Hydra 52's to the tank so must be to much light then. under the first two Hydras it was normal when I added the two new Hydra 52's I turned down the power to 30% hard the believe the that is to much light. the coral sits 8" below the water line and lights are 8" above the water line.

BTW SoloGarth, how do you get the photos to show so well? mine come out looking like there is a shadow over them.

Depends on the pic. For that pic I used a Nikon DSLR taken from above using a avast porthole.

The shadow might be caused by using an on camera flash or blocking the lights when taking pics from above?

Ok I was taking the shot from the side.

I use a second off camera flash that is away from the camera at an angle. It is helpful particularly for macro shots.
