Also, I'm not saying the salt mix doesn't get cloudy every once in a while. I was stating above that I do not have a build up of calcium (which I have experienced with other salts) or mold in my mixing container.

My understanding that Oceanic DD2 is made from the same evaporated salt from the Red SeA
I don't come across very many problems using it?

My mixing container is translucent. See pic below. Because of space limitations within my fish room, it is placed next to the tank and subsequently adjacent to the lights above the tank. There may be some nutrient in the mix that caused the mold growth or what ever the black substance was that I rinsed from the container, along with the scale that was at the bottom of the container. If the salt is indeed derived from dehydrated Red Sea water, then there are certainly spores of some unknown alga or other, in the mix.

I know people are having good results with RSCP salt and it's not my intent to bash it. Only relaying my experience. I don't have these issue with ESV salt.

Hope you guys don't mind me jumping in here. I find it interesting that Red Sea states to not mix longer than the 4 hours. It says right on the bucket: "DO NOT mix for more than 4 hours." Anyone know why that is? Whats the downfall of going over?

I know some people like to mix their salt for 24+ hours and "mature" it. I like to mix mine overnight and use it the next day.

The salt has a non-caking agent in it so it does not get rock hard if exposed to moisture. I think someone said it was gypsum which is inert in an aquarium but if you let it stir for more than four hours it comes out of the solution. I've been using RSCP for over a year and get the brown stuff too if I let it stir over night. I have a concern about what the brown stuff will do to my pumps but have not experienced any increased maintenance or problems since switching from Tropic Marin because of the price.
