Red Sea Foundation dosing

Current levels are as follow:
Mg 1230 ppm
Alk 7.3 dKH
Ca 420 ppm

From the manual, I understand Red Sea only recommends daily raise of:
  • 10 ppm Mg
  • 1.4 dKH Alk
  • 20 ppm Ca

Raising Alk & Ca not an issue as it can be reached quite quickly.

My question is more towards Mg ....

If 10 ppm Mg is the daily recommended max rate of Mg raise and to aim for 1,310 ppm of Mg, meaning that I need to raise it by 80 ppm ... and this is to be done over the course of 8 days? This also have not taken account on how much Mg being depleted from the tank too.

Mg doesnt get depleted as fast as Ca or Alk, so dosing for 8 days should get you to 1310.

But I also havent heard of dosing that slow for mag. I think you can increase mag by 80 in one day w/o problem, but double check that

Have a read #5 from Red Sea foundation manual below:

100 ppm of calcium or magnesium per day should be fine. I would be a bit more cautious with the first doses, because getting an accurate number for the water volume of the tank can be difficult. 1.4 dKH should be fine for a single dose of alkalinity, as well.
