NaCl+H2O Fish

For ick a natural way to control it is:
- feed your fish good quality meaty foods with garlic.
- get some cleaner shrimp. They are very effective at removing ick. My Chalk Bass had a bad case and the cleaners removed it in a week
- temporarily run a UV sterilizer.

If that doesn't work and you are at risk of losing fish consider an antibiotic. Polylab Medic is reef safe and they claim it won't harm nitrifying bacteria.

Polyp Lab Medic contains Metronidazole and for about 1/4 the cost you can get some API Metronidazole. I have used this in the past and noticed no ammonia spike after so it looks like it didn't kill the nitrifying bacteria.

Can't help you witht he ICH (knocks on wood) as I haven't experienced that nasty parasite.
However, could the "tear drop shaped worms" be Q-tip sponges?
I have a billion of them in the sump for my 110g and from what I read are beneficial to a reef tank.
any chance of closer picture of the Royal Gramma?
dxtr - Hmmmm? Q-tip sponges? Could very well be what they are..... Thanks! The Royal Gramma is very noticeably covered with white spots. I just want to keep him to continue to enthusiastically eat and remain active.

Marty - Another possible solution.... wish that was on a Hospital Tank! Thanks!

Brent F -
1. Very meaty (high protein food) is always fed.... Check!
2. Always add Kent GarlicXtreme to my food.... Check!
3. Have a Skunk/Cleaner Shrimp.... but I am about to FIRE HIM for negligence!
4. Do not own or have tried a UV sterilizer.....
Thanks for the links....

Kent a.k.a. NaCl+H2O Fish;)

When my Bass had ick it would lie in front of a cleaner shrimp and open its mouth and gills. The cleaner would get right inside and remove the parasites

Ok would an Ozonizer unit be compatible the with stock skimmer. Prob not but looking for info. Let me know the reasons why it would not. Would an ozonizer help with the skimmate if it was combatible. How about I just not run any skimmer. I hate my stock unit and do not want to drop the $ for the 9002 yet. Blah, it is noisy and if I could untimately not run it I would be happy, but I have many specimens, only 1 fish so far. I am just mad and jumping the gun I think.

On the ozonizer, you'd have to check with Red Sea - not all skimmers are compatible with ozone - I have no idea why, unless ozone can degrade some plastics?

I received my replacement pump for the skimmer, cooling fan & 2 lights from RSM yesterday. Great service from RSM!! Shipping charges from RSM were $23.60 plus Import Charges (paid at my door to UPS) $19.47. $43.00 in total for charges is a lot of coin! (for a $30.00 order)
My skimmer pump, & cooling fan were warranty replacements, so no charge. Lights were $15 each, ordered 2 for a total order amount of $30.00.
The Tunze 9002 skimmer cup was full of clear water this AM. Is it possible for a water change to have that effect? I turned it down a bit now, too. So far, day 3, I haven't gotten any scum collecting ... but it is still breaking in ... I think. It runs nice & quiet and the skimmer box lid has stayed in place since I pulled the air hose tight from the bottom of the skimmer.

I thought you would be particularly interested in the info, Brent . :)

Is your new family member with you yet? I see him in your photo ...

And what T5 conversion is that? Obviously I missed that round of posts

Donna At $43 to ship lights the T5 conversion would pay for itself fairly quickly.

I am quoting Brent here from a few pages back:

"I'm still considering swapping out the ballasts and end caps and converting my hood over to T5's. For $125 ($185 with bulbs) I can get a 4 X 24 watt = 96 watt T5 which should be near if not better than the 2 X 55 watt T5 PC the RSM came with. I would need to make sure it could fit in the same space.

Another advantage of this swap is the actinics can be turned on earlier and shut off later than the 10,000k daylight bulbs giving a dawn and dusk effect.

This could work out cheaper in the long run especially if there are brokerage fees on shipping the RSM bulbs into Canada.

Brent, I missed that post. But if you get the right ballast you can overdrive the bulbs and even get more par. I would not use a pure actinic bulb. I would get higher par bulbs.

Donna - Wow on the shipping & duty charges almost 150% of the cost of the lights! And the import duty close to the shipping. I can see why you folks up north of the border try to buy locally! On the water in the skimmer, water changes often cause changes in skimming. Turning it down a bit may have been needed anyway.

.... and Reefmack is p#*&%d at me!

By the way, to set the record straight I am NOT p#*&%d at Kent! He was just being humorous. Kent is just too kind hearted a soul to ever get mad at about anything! :) I guess he must have thought I was upset at him for spending too much time with his new Quaker parrot Dolce, instead of being in here posting! Shamey on you Kent!

Who is what?

What do You Know????

What do You Know????

Reefmack -
I didn't mean any disrespect to my mentor!!! Thanks for the kind words. Just my dry humor again being taken the wrong way....

Martinphillip03 - Forgive me if I am blunt!
How would you know anything about the relationship that I have with my mentor Reefmack??? You pop in and out of this thread with your posts and you DON'T EVEN own a RSM!
Please.... keep your opinions to yourself! :mad2:

Here's a cool concept I hadn't seen till now. I'd seen the magnetic frag mounts, but they now have artifically made rock, flat on one side, that can be attached to the back or sides of a tank.

Mag Rock

A bit pricy, but in this hobby what isn't?

OK, got my skimmer turned down ... it's just now starting to 'froth' at the bottom. Skimmate in the the making!

Reefmack: Isn't that a kick in the butt ... shipping, handling and customs costs! At least our Canadian dollar is strong right now. :) Last year we could have tacked on another 40% for the exchange rate. :eek2:

Just bought a tunze 9002...I know somehwhere in the many RSM threads there was a discussion regarding the new style mount with a magnet. So now for my questions:

1) If I install this which side do I mount it to (heater or plug side)?

2) Will it sit flush so that I can close the RSM lid?

3) I'm not sure if my tunze is missing anything but it seems at the top where the cup goes there is a hole (not the hole where the air screw is but on the opposite side there is a hole with no screw) was there something at this location?

4) Is the cup supposed to lock into place by this screw?

5) If I have nothing in its place will it mess with the performance?

Thanks

Donna - good news on the Tunze! And yep - the last time I check your dollar was worth more than ours. I can remember back when when ours was equal to about $2 CAD.

Just my dry humor again being taken the wrong way. But I understand why. I didn't give enough info to convey my little joke.
My response was to the line
I guess he must have thought I was upset at him for spending too much time with his new Quaker parrot Dolce,
I was agreeing to that statement. I will work better in communicating in the future.

Marty
