Brent: How did the first night go?

He's sleeping in the crate 3 - 4 hours at a stretch. The first two nights have gone very smoothly

Thanks for the info Titans and Rsmreefer. And very nice rockwork and tank Scooterman. Since my room gets very hot, I have to get a chiller going before putting in any lifestock other than the lr that's currently in there. I'm just glad that I have my 225g fully stocked to keep me entertained until I get my chiller for my 34g RSM.

hello everyone..i just bought a RSM last a week ago and was wondering what chiller are the majority of RSM owners running and what hp? Thanks.

I have a JBJ 1/15 Arctica Mini. Works great, my tank is always at 77.8.

Hello to everyone I haven't seen in a while.

Dontxtrip, where is your RSM situated? Does the room that it's in get hot? ONly asking because my bedroom usually gets pretty warm and I have heard that if dealing with a warm room, I should get the 1/10 and not the 1/15. Thanks

DontXtripNfall - hey guy! Good to hear from you. I hope all is well with you and the RSM.

Tangwich - if you're concerned that the 1/15 won't do it, it may be more money, but the 1/10 may be worth it rather than wishing later that you'd got the 1/10 instead. On the other hand most seem to do just fine with the 1/15.

I'm running a 1/15 right now, and it seems to do well. I'd rather not run one at all, and I am working on getting to that point, but under MH lighting in the stock hood, it is tough.

The only reason I have the 1/15 is that it came with the tank :)

Tangwich - The room my RSM is in gets very hot almost all the time. In the winter it gets the worst actually. I live on the 26th floor and whoever has their heater turned on throughout the 26 stories underneath me makes the heat rise. It feels like a sauna on really cold days and makes me open a window. The summer isn't as bad but it still gets hot, the airconditioning is to far away to make much of a difference. If I didn't have a chiller my tank would definitely overheat

Terry - The tank is doing well! I've decided to stay with small fish for now so I can have more fish. My idea's about everything are gone, after seeing everything in real life I either lost interest or didn't want to take risks. I do have a pink polyp birdsnest that is growing quite fast for the RSM lighting. Deep down at heart I have lots of confidence with it, but to play it safe I've only experimented with SPS that were gifts or were cheap. Would you like to see a picture, maybe a before and after? I've changed the aquascaping a quite a bit.

Yeah, i did some research and for $40 more, I would go with the 1/10hp from the beginning. Thanks

My friend recently purchased a JBJ 1/10 and he was sent the .. umm $500 one i don't remember the hp.

My chiller was also upgraded when i bought it. JBJ Tends to do that often. Good Luck

I would like to see some pics Dontxtrip...
I'm going to see if a local reefer has a chiller for sale cheaper than a new one.

Ouch... $500 for a chiller. Thank goodness I am not in the position to pay that!

Tangwich - Definitely check out local sources first. So long as you know what you are buying and can give it a good look over, it can really save you a bundle!

I'll post a couple pics when I get home then.

I like your car. I was in LA recently.

Did I mention I have a Christmas Wrasse coming in the mail tomorrow? I'm excited about that! And I may pick up a black clown or 2 tonight.

No no no, he got upgraded to the one that costs like 500 and only paid for the 1/10.

Buying used in this hobby is a risk, just make sure it's not wore out. It would be a shame for it to stop working one day and kill everything just because you wanted to save.

Yeah, I completely agree xdfireguy. I have gotten some great deals from local reefers leaving the hobby. That's one of the good things about living in southern california with so many reefers. On the other hand, I have paid it back many MANY times over in high electric bils. lmao..hahaha

Dontxtripnfall, thanks for the compliment, it sure is a fun car to drive. Especially when I drive my Honda Accord all week and then take my black beast out on weekends. What a huge difference.
Really? where in la did you visit? and how long were you out here for? hope you got to check out some of the lfs.
I love Christmas wrasses, I had a Potters wrasse for a while but lost it due to being stressed out by a temperamental flame angel. Congrats on the wrasse and can't wait to see the pics and of the wrasse as well.

Yeah, that's why I added the caviat that you really need to know what you are looking at. I also believe in redundancy, I have the lights set to turn off (leaving all three fans running) if the temp gets to 83. That way if the chiller fails, I still am relatively safe until I can fix it.

I can't justify buying a Reefkeeper Elite for this tank when it would cost me more than the tank, lights, and chiller combined. But I have relagated a RK2 to the job.

Then again, my tank has become a RSMaxenstein! I do like to "tinker" ;)

Sounds like you've learned a lot about what works & what doesn't. It's not easy for any of us to always be able to figure that out. Sure we'd like to see some tank pictures!
