Vanessa That's great news on Raegan! Thanks for the update. I hope she can set a very much extended new record on being surgery free.

shiveley the new tank build sounds great, and I can understand opting for one tank instead of four! I have a small 9g set up for a while & regret it. Easy to care for, but just one more tank to take care of - taking care of one is a lot less hassle. Good luck with it. I'll have to search & see if you have a thread on the 75.

Well the Tunze has been up and skimming for a little over 24 hours now, I have more skimmate in the cup then I had out of the stock skimmer in running for a solid month at a time. It is a little watery very light tea color so I will do some fine tuning over the next few days and see how it goes.

Sounds good brycek! Have the bubbles diminished any yet?

Yes the bubbles have diminished for now, I had to top off water twice last night due to the volume difference of not having the stock skimmer in the chamber any longer once I got that corrected the bubbles settled down and have disappeared. Now the only bubbles I have are from the algae in the tank that I still have not been able to get under control........I am headed out to the store now to get something to take care of the algae. I can't deal with it any longer I have been siphoning out every couple of days and water changes and can't seem to get it under control. I know though that adding chemicals is going to mess up the skimmer for a few days.

Arreola I didn't take any pics of the install as it is only going to be temporary until next week when my overflow box arrives. I will then be relocating the skimmer to my sump/refugium. The Tunze that I got is the older style with the hanging bracket(the newer versions have a magnet mount) so what I did was adjust the bracket to hang the skimmer off of the glass for the heater compartment. I just really am impressed in the difference in skimmate already over the stock skimmer, I wish I would have bought this 9 months ago instead of tinkering around all this time trying to keep the stock one skimming.

brycek-

Good to hear that you got the skimmer up and running. The Tunze is a little workhorse when compared to stock. I hope you enjoy it.

Good to see that the RSM owners forum is still going strong.

Looks like you guys are heading for yet another split soon.

Reef-Ski , not sure I gotta it hooked up exactly like you said and showed in that diagram but it is in there and working and it is only until next week when I move it to the sump. Thanks again

Brent I asked about JohnL now showing up as the RSM Club thread starter, and here's the reply:

I could swear that change didn't place till just recently, but I may be wrong.

brycek I still haven't put my Tunze 9002 in the tank, but StevieT did a mod by placing a magnet (or 2) on the side of the 9002, and mounted it on the back wall of the skimmer chamber with other magnet(s) to keep it in place. I've glued 2 Tunze magnets on the side of mine, and tried the install using 2 halves of a mag cleaner on the back, but forgot to first clean off the growth of the tube worms, algae & other critters on that back wall, and it was sliding around too much on the slimy surface, and I didn't have time that day to clean the back wall & try again. A lot of RSM/9002 users in another forum (Nano-Reef) have used this mounting method.

Reefmack good to know about the magnets. Like I said before I am just using it temporarily in the RSM and will be moving to the sump once I get the overflow.

Yes, the change happened in the last week. I often come into this thread from the nano forum and look for your id in the thread starter column to find it. That's how I noticed the change.

I added a clip on fan to blow over the surface of the tank....temp is hovering around 78 degrees right now. Amazing!!

BTW: Dorie is back at the fish store, waiting for her next BIG TANK home.

vanwassup Great news :)

If you don't mind going through a lot of RO water a fan is the cheapest and most effective way to control tank temperature. Evaporation sucks the heat out of the water. You might need to put the fan on a timer to keep the temp from dropping too low over night.

Vanessa - Brent's recommendation on the timer is an excellent one. You might even want to have the fan shut off an hour or so after lights out. What Brent said is true - you don't want to be cooling the tank too low during the night, plus needing more top off water. By the way - that's how we stay alive in heat - we sweat to keep our body temperature constant by evaporative cooling. Same effect on the tank.

Was it difficult getting Dorie out of the tank? Did you have to bring a replacement home for Raegan?

I kept my tank at 76. When I upgraded the MH from 70 to 250 watts the temp soared to 84 during the day and dropped back to 76 at night. I added the fan and it climbed to 80 during the day and dropped to 72 at night. Now I have the fan with timer and the tank stays in the 78 to 80 degree range.

Brent F -
I do the same search.... What is the problem here???
John L's animated diver avatar always alerts all of us to a split....
BUT WHY IS Reefmack NO LONGER LISTED AS THE THREAD STARTER?

I am planning on putting the fan on a timer. Was thinking of getting a temperature monitor to shut it off when the temp hit 78 or something, but those monitors are about $160-$170. I guess that is cheaper than a chiller LOL. I don't mind the evaporation - I have a 4 stage RO in my laundry room that I use for water changes and top offs. I can't tell you how happy all my plants are because having the fish tank has really helped me remember to water my plants!! (I do not let the waste water run down the drain - I water EVERYTHING with it...)

As for getting Dorie out - it was a piece of cake. She slept up in the corner by the powerheads and I just waited for her to go to sleep and distracted her quickly with a flashlight and came from the other direction with the net. I didn't bring anything else home for my daughter. I was sad leaving Dorie at the fish store and vowed never to bring anything home that would outgrow my system. It isn't fair to the fish and it isn't fair to me. I know it was the right thing to do, but it was sad.

A timer is about $150 - $160 cheaper than a temperature monitor.

Wellcome back, Kent. It's been a while

Vanessa Good job on getting Dorie out of the tank. Sad, but it was done for the well being of the fish :(

NaCl+H2O Fish Don't you know it was all just our imagination that I was ever listed as the starter of this thread beyond the first split. I guess we're all crazy. Here were the responses from the RC Mod Gods:

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=13167960#post13167960

They once again closed a post rather than address the issues, but at least the Mod Gods admitted they have no idea how the software works. I wonder if anyone does? I've given up dealing with the Mod Gods - as in the past they are always correct, even when wrong. Sad situation that they treat members like we're a bunch of brainless idiots. Since you joined the thread after it split a few times, it was all just your imagination, and lack of paying attention, that makes you think you ever saw me listed as the thread starter. I'll just sit here now and wait for a PM from the Mod Gods telling me to stop the criticism or I'll be banned from RC, as if it's the only good forum around - there are many others that treat members with more respect than Reef Central. It won't be the first time I've received undeserved threats from them. They just cannot stand any criticism at all. I could care less if I'm no longer listed as the thread starter, but I do take offense to being basically being called a liar about this whole issue. According to the Mod Gods the only rights we members have on Reef Central is to leave and don't come back. What a wonderful situation!
