I have a serious red slime problem in my tank. Work has gotten in the way for several months, so my maint. has suffered. I have the time now to get the tank back on track. Is there a way to get rid of the slime, or am i better off getting new rock. I've had this rock for several years and i like the way it looks in the tank. Any help would be great. Thanks,Bob.

I have used Chemiclean by Boyd and has worked well for a lot of people here in RC (might take 2x applications). Lots of flow and weekly water change should do the job.

I am not a fan of using chemicals to treat husbandry problems. It will probably work, but there is some risk involved.

I favor siphoning it out with water changes and getting your water parameters back in check.

First thing first whats your specs. I know you said maintenance is off schedule. second what type flow do you have? I had the slime for a while and after I switched to ro/di and re-positioned a cpl of powerheads and syphoning it out with a turkey baster its all gone. Try lowering a PH closer to the sand bed and rocks that the slime is covering. The slime is usually caused my excess nutrients settling on rocks or sand beds. Add more flow to the area and remove what ya can. Also cut back on feedings.
