Red Velvet + Orange Back Wrasse??

Yeah Yeah
Anyone ever have these 2 together? I added the Orange back more recently and the red velvet was relentless chasing the orange back around the tank. This went on for 2 days before I placed the Orange back in an acclimation container in the tank. He's healthy and eating like a pig in his cage, but I am wondering if I can ever get these to fish to coexist. Any experiences? Thanks.

Leave him in the acclimation for a little while and see how the Red Velvet reacts to it. There's also a chance it might not work out. IME, the orange shoulder's do not really defend themselves that good. They will jump out the tank before defending themselves.

Or another option is you can take out the Red Velvet out for a couple of weeks, letting the orange shoulder get established.

Rubrisquamis is often a bad offender in this regard. If you've got a bad apple, an acclimation box will ultimately make no difference I'm afraid.

A few days in the acclimation box can help determine if the rubrisquammis is indeed a 'bad apple'. Some can be belligerent, whereas others calm down once the newcomer recognizes the pecking order.

Thanks for the info.

Might possible remove the red velvet or put in my QT tank for a while.

We'll see. I'm glad that I was able to separate them at least at the moment.

Perhaps I'll put the Red velvet in the acclimation box and allow the orange back to swim free :). I can easily catch the red velvet. Soon I am introducing a lineatus and I'm worried about the rose getting aggressive with him as well.

In this case I would remove the Red Velvet for awhile, letting the other wrasses get established then try re-introducing it.

Yup, this is what I did. I put the red velvet in a buddy's reef. The orange back is swimming around carefree now :). I'll introduce the Lineatus next week.
