Redundant Threads!! We Need Stickies

There is way too many newbie questions that are just redundant. Why don't we have at least 10 stickies for the most common questions.. Or can we get a thread together that we can just point newbies to instead of wasting our time writing the same old same old?

1. Cyano
2. Hair Algae
3. Brown Corals
4. Mandarin Goby
5. Visiting Chicago LFS
6. Catching Fish
7. Manjano Eradication
8. Red Bugs
9. AEFW
10. Aptaisia Eradication

Wow I am still a newbie. I was going to ask about number 7. I thought it was the same as 10, which I've read about, but not now. I guess have to do some searching.

Or maybe one sticky - 'search is your friend' :) But I remember not being a supporter and the search never working.

This is hard as sometimes the situations are different. The most common answers are good basis, but what happens when all those have been tried and its still not fixing the problem?

I am just trying to avoid the threads that ask what can I do about my hair algae.. Or I have red bugs now what. Or my corals are browning now what.. I guess this is just me but man if one just uses google you can find a ton of info. I guess these guys are looking for the one answer and I guess it keeps websites like this one going but its getting to the point where like in the SPS thread they don't want you to ask for a coral to be ID so they started another thread, why can't we do the same here..

You don't have to read every thread, but some one with a problem or issue would like to ask their own question.
Fuppets, 7 and 10 are more alike than different. They are both pest anemones and can both be treated with many of the same things to be erradicated. #10 has a couple of natural predators, copperband butterfly and pepermint shrimp. I believe mojanos only predator is the angry reefer that spots them.

You think these are redundant, you should go to my puffer forum! I can't tell you how many folks buy sick puffers from Walmart or put them in a 1g uncycled bowl.

i think we forget we were all new at one point. sometimes a newbie just wants to get started in the forum by asking a less advanced question. I'm sure we all asked a simple, already answered question at one point or another. if they cant ask simple question how will their post count ever go up? i think this forum is successful because everyone is involved, newbies and advanced reefers alike. i would not want that to change. i vote NO to segregation and I'm for treating everyone the same.

Agreed. But, if not a supporter, the google operator "site:reefcentral.com keyword keyword" works very well. I would not want a list of 10 stickies at the top of the forum, nor do I mind redundant threads. Not to mention, each situation may be different. Nothing wrong with people, especially people new to reef keeping, asking a question. If you don't want to answer, skip it. Someone will help.

I hardly see it as a "waste of time"... are you saying you NEVER asked a newbie question? People need help, and asking questions is the best way.

I started this thread to help the Newbies!! So they can find answers to common questions quickly.. Now getting their post count up is a different story.

Looking back at some of your original posts, you asked the very same questions that are asked alot by others that don't have the knowledge. What if others told you that they didn't want to 'waste their time' by helping you out? Also, you say to google questions, but in this case???

Ok so I just checked out E... and found this.. Can any please give me a newbie some advise on this..

Thanks

2 problems with sticky's.

1) Nobody reads them....Really. Most are too lazy to "read" and want a quick answer.
2) Having 10 sticky's at the top of this forum, plus the RC sticky's will take up half the front page. (big time annoying). So now your problem is that you'd need to compress your topics into one sticky and within that post, have 10 links to whatever you want. However, having one "read me first" or "FAQ" sticky takes us right back to problem #1 above. :D

Exactly. If you don't want to pay to support RC, there are two ways around the problem:

a. search at night
b. learn to use Google

Being the cheepskate that I am, I use Google and search after midnight.

Or, you can be patient for a short while when we finish out database changes and searching should be much better. :) (Note sticky at the top of this forum).
