Reef Brite LED's - Now Taking Orders!

Hi Stu, I just spoke with Joy @ ReefBrite and unfortunately this isn't something that can be repaired by the end user unfortunately. This would have to be sent back in to them to get taken care of.

I would just stick with the standard units, I don't think you will need the XHO, even with it being an all sps system if you're running that many modules.

If you purchase two more then I'd suggest doing another all blue and then an all white. I'd put the all white in the middle, and the blues on the outer front and back of that.
Hi Jeremy,
I had purchased 2 standard units, Order Number : 613869. I tried to set it up last night but found one of the power supply not working. Do I need to contact Reef Brite directly?
Thanks!

It certainly is! The dimmer has an RJ-45 connector on it that will plug right into the variable speed port on the Apex, so you're good to go right out of the box.

Could you explain what need to be bought if I want to control two reef brite VHO led strips? I saw the back of the controller has 3 cables but no port for apex cable. Where is the RJ45 connector(I thought RJ45 is ethernet port)?

The port for the Apex is the RJ-45 connector on the ReefBrite (that is 1 of the 3 cables you're referring to). The 0-10v ports on the Apex use an RJ-45 connector, so this will plug directly into the Apex without you having to make a connection yourself.

If you plan on running both of your XHO's off the same power supply then you'd just need one dimmer and a splitter. If you're running them on two separate power supplies you'd need 2 x dimmers.

I have twelve XHO strips (48" each) on my tank. Is there a suitable dimmer option for people with many strips like me?

Jeremy,

Can this controller dim to "off" using 0-10v control? I have dimmed with meanwell drivers before, and they require the power be switched on, then you can dim down to 10%.

I am just curious if I will need to use a relay outlet on my APex to turn it on.

The only option I can think of is to run the 120w power supplies and run two XHO strips per one single power supply. You would then need a total of 6 dimmers to be able to accomodate this.

The dimmer will indeed take the LED's all the way down to "off", not just to a low 10% setting or anything.

Jeremy,

I just got the dimmer in, and cannot get it to work either manually or with the VDM.

The strip works fine when plugged directly into the power supply. The dimmer lights up when connected to the power supply. There is a metal switch in the back that I would assume (no instructions) goes between manual and 0-10v control. With that switched to manual, I can dial 00-100 fine...but nothing happens on the light. With it switched to 0-10v control and the Apex VDM set to ON....still nothing. I have a message into Joy at ReefBrite, but do you have any suggestions?

Hey James, I was going to say I'd give Joy a call for you and find out but sounds like you've already done that. It sounds like a bad dimmer to me, but let's see what she says first. We can get it swapped out for you, or she can, whatever you guys prefer once you talk. Just let me know how I can help out.

I just talked to Joy again, she is going to get back to me. At the output of the dimmer(the male end that would plug into the strip) I am only getting .747 Volts no matter what. She is thinking it is a bad unit as well and should be getting a new one out after I email info to her.

Thanks for the update. Joy just called me as well and said they are getting a replacement right out for you with a call tag for the one you have now.

I ordered 1 24" reefbrite xho all blue today and am going to order a 2nd in a month or two along with the dimming unit. Do I have to order a new power supply in order to set up both units for dimming?

And just to clarify about the dimming capabilities using the apex before I go this route... Can I ramp from 0-100% over the course of a day and also use them as moonlights? Most leds cut off at 4-14%, can these do better?

Thanks
