Reef Brite LED's - Now Taking Orders!

can someone post a pic of a tank wit just the 50/50's on? Im trying to decide on either the blue or the 50/50. Also do you think a 48" would cover a 60" tank well?

I have a 60" tank, and the 48" covers the 60" more than sufficiently. If I had it to do over again, I would get 2 50/50's as the 100% blue is like a black light effect. Very, very bright but is too blue. Trying to figure out if I want a second strip that is 100% white or 50/50. I suspect I will do one blue and one white, to balance everything out.

Man, I wish I would have seen some of these comments before my order was shipped yesterday... I got the all blue and was hoping to use that as my dawn/dusk, but it sounds like it is too blue...

+2 on any pictures! I ordered the 48" for a 60" tank as well. Looks like I might be adding my T5's for the dawn/dusk, then kick on the LEDs, then MH's and turn off the T5. I think I could probably get away with just one T5, might use my figi purple... Love that look.

Any chance of getting a full tank shot with those on? Guess it is too late for me, but might help others.

Yeah, but this adjustment is not the same as i can control with 1-10v.

her eis a couple of pic i just took. I mount them to my Sfiligoi fixure.

Flip77 - You are mistaken about these. While there are a ton of LED "strips" on the market, these are not the same thing you have tried, I'm sure of it. Here is what we have so far.....

The strips have the following number of LED's.....

15" - 6 LED's
24" - 12 LED's
36" - 18 LED's
48" - 24 LED's

The LED's are adjustable in power, with roughly a 40% decrease or increase. For example, this 24" in the photos can be driven anywhere from 15w up to 25w.

24" can be driven from 15w up to 25W. What will be 36" and 48" strips?

@discocarp - were you still interested in these? RB called me yesterday asking about them, since the extensions are custom made.

@maddog2002 - I was mistaken when I first posted those numbers. The 15w - 25w is actually 15vdc - 25vdc, not wattage, but rather voltage being supplied to the LED's. Sorry for the confusion!

What kelvin rating is the pure white LED reefbrite strip? I'm looking for a long lasting LED setup to light my refugium.... will the white LEDs be enough to promote algae growth (sounds like PAR is there, just wondering about spectrum)? Such as chaetomorpha or gracilaria?

Thanks!
John

Hi John, these LED's are rated at 8000k. To the naked eye (not always trustworthy), I would say that's pretty darn close, or maybe just slightly low. These LED's should be perfect for a refugium.

I received the Reef Brite 50/50 for testing. Wow, it's bright. Before I purchase more to build a fixture I have a question. Your pictures show the same power supply I have at different voltages. There's no knob or buttons on my power supply????

Yes, I've just had a slight delay. I'll be ordering two 36" blue fixtures by the end of the week.

I figured it out. They put the sticker over the adjustment hole with the potentiometer on the right side. It adjusts it 15v-24v.

Sorry, I meant to respond to this and forgot about it. I figured the sticker was slightly offset and covering the set screw.

265g tank (84" long). Two 36" reef brite blue fixtures. DSB. Bottom of the sandbed is 28" below water surface. Halides are 175W iwasaki 15k bulbs on PFO electronic ballasts on PFO reflectors. Halide bulbs are 12" above the water surface.

I am loathe to comment on these until I have them properly mounted, but... I'm thrilled with them. I have them balanced on the tank braces (just to see what they look like). On the braces, 24V is too bright for me. Way too blue! I adjusted the reef brites to about 17.6V, which is equal to 24V at the height I will eventually mount them (eyeballing it). STUNNING. I was worried it wouldn't be enough, and I am THRILLED with how these look. Honestly, I was VERY nervous about spending the cash on them compared with T5s, but I am very, very happy.

I will update again once I pull down the canopy and mount them properly. These are, IMO, very capable actinics on a big tank, as long as you special order the cord length extensions (reef brite really came through with these at reasonable cost and quickly).

Whats the max temp that they can withstand? I want to supplement my MH with these but I dont want them to die if I put them in my canopy.

Eric, this will give even more pop than what the powerbrite's do in my opinion. You would be very happy with them!

ganjero, you wouldn't want to run them in a canopy that gets up to 180* or anything, but normal operating temps within a canopy that range in the 105 - 120* temps shouldn't be much of a problem. Just make sure you are venting the canopy with some fans.
